THE SELF-RIGHTEOUS SINNER
DOOMED TO SORROW

"Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks; walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow." [Isaiah 50:11]
In speaking from this text, I shall enquire,
I. What is this self-kindled fire--what are these "sparks ye have kindled"?
The answer must be found in the description which the text itself gives, and in the contrast between this class and that described in the preceding verse.
The spirit of this class is one of self-dependence, as opposed to the spirit of depending on God.
Here we may well enter into particulars, to illustrate some of the many particular forms it will assume.
Many assume and take comfort in the assumption that they are in a good state before God. They have done nothing very bad. Setting up a standard of their own by which to judge in the case, they conclude, even on their death-beds, that all is well with them. But these little sparks that cast their glimmer of light over the darkness of the grace, are entirely of their own kindling. They have not carefully compared their own state with the Bible standard of the Christian life. The glimmering light that casts its lurid rays over their death-scene, comes not from the gospel hope, or from divine promise.
There is another form of self-righteousness. Some will say to you--"I have endeavored to do right." Do right! What is the law of right-doing? Is there any other save to love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and strength and mind, and your neighbor as yourself? And does your right-doing come up to the demands of this rule?
In another form, the sinner says--"I am doing as well as I can." But are you quite sure of that? Has your own conscience never condemned you? Have you always honored and loved God as your Father--and have you always treated all your fellow-creatures as his children should be treated? Have you no consciousness of having come greatly short of your real ability in these things?
Some will say--"I have at any rate, done a great deal of good. I have been kind to my wife and children, or to my brothers and sisters, and to my neighbors."
But if you propose to place yourself on the ground of strict law and justice, the one question which the law of God will ask is this--"Have you continued in all the things written in the law to do them?" Have you kept the whole law and not offended in one point--ever?
Anything less than this by ever so little--will forfeit your title to eternal life on the ground of law.
Others comfort themselves with good resolutions. With those they get up a fire of their own kindling--and are fain to think that if they are not as good as they should be, they shall be by and by.
Many take great credit to themselves for kind feelings and obliging manners. Perhaps by nature they have generous impulses. There are such. Yet they entirely neglect God. They may be very humane. Their bearing towards their fellow-men may not be savage, or oppressive. Therefore they take comfort.
But let such men consider--the lower animals are more generally kind towards their species than men are towards theirs. Cases are often brought to light in which animals cleave to each other even to death. There is said to be one species of animals so devoted to each other, that if you were to shoot down one of their young, the rest would gather round the dying or the dead, and mourn there, and allow themselves to be shot down till they all lay in death together! Some animals have this feeling; and now shall mankind take great credit for themselves for even far less of it than the lower animals?
Some men glory in their reformatory principles. Because they are doing so much to improve society and bless mankind, they assume that all must be right between themselves and God. Often such men seem not aware how much they really depend on their own good deeds and righteousness before the Lord.
Many think themselves as good as professors of religion. Measuring themselves by their neighbors who are in the church, they flatter themselves that they shall be accepted before the great tribunal. It sometimes happens most conveniently for their purpose that there are a few professors whose lives honor ungodliness rather than godliness. Taking advantage of these, they get no small comfort in comparing themselves with ungodly professors of religion.
Others strike yet a little higher and think themselves as good as the deacons or as some gospel ministers. Thus their dependence is altogether human in its foundation. They warm themselves with sparks of their own kindling.
Many rely on certain experiences, which perhaps are dreams or visions. Yet they think it concerns them little how they live. They are, it may be, utterly selfish, unwilling to do their part for any public object. Or they are grasping, worldly-minded, hard-fisted, ever loving this present world. Strange, yet true--such persons will fall back on their own experiences, and find in those, a basis for comforting hopes of heaven! In one instance, a man had written out his experience, so that what he might fail to keep in his memory might be faithfully kept on the written record. In his hours of trial he used to get this and read it over. At last he came to his death-bed. There, feeling the need of his old experience, he sent his little daughter to the drawer to get it; when lo! the mice had found and destroyed it! It was eaten up, and his hope had perished! He had to "Lie down in sorrow!"
Many prepare for themselves refuges of lies to be used in the same way--and I may say--with the same result.
Some rely for their defence before God, on their unbelief. They do not believe the Bible, and they really make their great sin their special apology and defence before God! They say--"Lord, we would not believe a word thou didst say, and therefore we could be under no obligation to obey thee."
All those nominally Christian hopes that fail to sanctify the heart, are of this self-righteous--self-dependent sort. Everything, save the sincere dependence on Christ which makes you like him in spirit, falls under this general character, and must end in this fearful doom.
II. We may next consider the destiny of all these classes.
On this fearful subject I surely would not say a word, save that silence would be unfaithfulness to your souls. It is no pleasure to me to disturb your fond hopes, or to trouble you with dreaded fears. But how can I be unfaithful to your souls!
Listen then to God's words of warning. Our text has a word for you! Mark what I say--all ye who hold on to your delusions--"This shall ye have at my hand;--ye shall lie down in sorrow." At whose hand? The hand of him who speaks in this passage; and he is none other than Jesus Christ himself. The whole context shows this. He, the Lord of all worlds, cries--"This shall ye have of my hand." What is this? What will he do? This; "Ye shall lie down in sorrow." When? At the close of life's short day. Then, when the hours of your probation shall be numbered and finished. Then, when your life-work shall be over, you shall lie down in sorrow.
Sorrow naturally bows one down as under a grievous burden. I have known persons so bowed down under sorrow that they could not rise up. O if they could forget;--but they cannot; and they must lie down forever under their load of sorrow.
There is the sorrow of self-reproach; who does not know the keenness of those pangs? I remember the case of a mother who reproached herself for neglecting two lost children. She was almost deranged. Ah, she never could forgive herself! Whenever you should mention their case, she would look wild and haggard. I could not understand her appearance until she told me the circumstances. O this was an awful case! So you will reproach yourself for neglecting Christ and salvation. With but too much fearful truth, you will say of yourself--I have been an infinite fool! Alas, "a wounded spirit, who can bear?"
In your cup there will be the sorrow of unavailing regret. Partial losses may be borne, for while they leave room for hope, human fortitude will rally. But if you have lost all--if there is nothing left to you--if your eternity is pure and hopeless ruin, then what can you do? O what a thought is that--your eternity one mass of unmingled ruin! Nothing can remain to you but everlasting, unavailing regret!
There will be also the sorrow of a burdened conscience. Each individual sinner will know that he is condemned by God and by every other being in the universe. He cannot but know that every other being must despise him as a guilty, unworthy wretch! Herein is involved the sorrow of being without friends and without sympathy. Your Christian friends--really the best you ever had--will have done all they can for you, and then, compelled by your own folly, they left you to your chosen doom. Ah, they can stand by you no longer! Long had they wept in your pathway to hell; but their tears were unavailing! They leave you and you have now no friends in the universe!
Sympathy often blunts the keen edge of sorrow. The tender relations of the present life seem beautifully arranged to help us bear the bitterness of human sorrow. But there are no such relations there! Each wicked man will have too much of his own to bear to think of you. In all that world of woe, there cannot be one sympathizing look; no, not one sympathizing whisper! In this world, though the mind may sink under the keenest sorrow, and go down, down, under its load of bitterest woe, yet even then, a sympathizing tear will bring relief. But no such relief can visit the home of the finally lost.
Sorrow is sometimes compared to a consuming fire. The figure is not inappropriate. It has been known to turn the hair all white in a single night. O how does such sorrow drink up the spirit and waste its living energies! But what is this compared with that other sorrow which no man can endure!
By an effort of will, we can in this world sometimes rule sorrow out of the mind;--but vain are all such efforts there. Think of the appalling emphasis with which Christ speaks of the place "where there is weeping and wailing, and gnashing of teeth." Or think of the solemnity of his words--"What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" His compassions were so deep that we find his warnings to sinners more emphatic and solemn than those of any inspired prophet or apostle. Not one among them all uttered words so thrilling, so solemn. This is but natural to one whose compassions were so deep and so tender.
REMARKS.
A portion of the sinner's final doom will be the natural outgrowth of his self-deception. When men deceive themselves, they have only themselves to blame. In the very nature of their case therefore, self-reproach must be one of the bitter ingredients in their cup.
It is also true (and this is one element of their sorrow,) that God will give expression to his infinite displeasure. He says--"This shall ye have at my hand." It must be made apparent to the universe that God's hand is in this unutterably awful affliction.
It has often been the case here that young people have ruled this subject out of their minds. It hindered their studies. So, assuming that study is worth more than salvation, they have said to Jesus Christ--"Go thy way for this time."
Some cannot bear to feel sorrow now, and therefore put their sorrows over till they shall come in one eternal flood, that nothing can assuage! They thrust away religious duties now because they dislike them--as if time could make them more pleasant! Some do not like to have their friends made sad, and therefore they exclude this subject from their attention. How often is this course pursued towards the sick.
God's warnings are most emphatic. You see this in our text. It declares most explicitly--"This shall ye have at my hand, ye shall lie down in sorrow." Listen also to those most emphatic and awful words that fell from the lips of our Savior, "Whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off; it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched; where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off; it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched; where the worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out; it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes, to be cast into hell-fire; where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." Mark 9:42-48.
Is it not amazing that men can have the hardihood to sneer at such language? Who does not know what such figures of speech must mean? Think of going with two hands, two feet--in your own human body--"into hell--into the fire that never shall be quenched!" Think of a soul immortal--doomed to endless sorrow! If thine eye offend thee, pluck it out. Though it be terrible to lose an eye, it is far less terrible than to lose your soul! What emphasis goes with these awful words! How solemnly are they reiterated! With what thunders of power they must have fallen from the lips of the Crucified One!
This text and subject should be a warning to the skeptic in his fancied security. Ah, does he think to sneer hell out of existence? Does he vainly dream that his sneers will annihilate that prison-house of woe? Ah! poor, wretched skepticism! How unutterably weak and wicked! Can you warm yourself by such sparks of your own kindling? Thinkest thou to enjoy life where their "worm dieth not, and their fire is not quenched?"
This subject comes with its warning to the delaying sinner. Now, when pressed to repent, you comfort yourself with the promise--I shall not always neglect it. Ah, but you may neglect it too long! Ere you are aware, the line--the unseen line between God's mercy and his wrath, may be forever passed by.
Let Universalists take warning. You have but a miserable refuge. You expect to go to heaven because all the wicked are there. Yes, because all the men of Sodom are there, ascending along with the smoke of their blasted, doomed city, when they were "set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire;"--because they all went up quick to heaven, you expect to go there too! Because all the pirates and murderers of every land and age go there, you expect to get in amongst them! Indeed! But may it not be that your hope, like that of the hypocrite, shall perish when God shall take away the soul?
Let spurious converts beware. Those who have long professed piety, but have also long given their hearts to the world, must come within the fearful sweep of the warnings of this text. You are a professor of religion, are you? And yet you live as if this world were your god. How will your hopes abide in the great day that shall search and try men's hopes?
Let this warn also, the ambitious, whether students, or ministers, or politicians--whoever you may be--take heed lest it come to thee at last, that thou lie down in sorrow!
All who live in the experience of Romans 7, whose hearts are in bondage under sin, and not in the liberty wherewith Christ makes his people free; take warning! What are the sparks with which you compass yourself about? These;--that with your conscience, you approve the right, but, with your will, you do the wrong; and can you suppose this will avail you in the great day of the Lord?
Ye who depend on the forms of religion without the power of it--hear what the Savior says in the text: "This shall ye have at my hand--ye shall lie down in sorrow." How do you avoid being aroused and thrown into an agony of anxiety? How is it, ye who are not walking in the Spirit, but in the flesh; you seem to be very much composed. So far from smiting on your breast and crying out--"Alas, I am undone!" you are finding comfort amid some sparks of your own kindling. What is your comfort? No matter whence it comes if it comes not from Christ. It can be of no value. It is only a flattering unction which you lay to your soul. Wilt thou be warned now? O wilt thou now awake from thy death-sleep, and arise from the dead, that Christ may give thee light?

Comparing the EU and the US response to climate alarmism
The latest Bruges Group research by Jeremy Nieboer reviews the present state of scientific opinion on the existence of any abnormal rise in temperature of the planet and the part, if any, that man made emissions of CO2 can with confidence be said to have contributed to it. The four successive reports of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the UK’s own Stern Review suggest that climate change may well cause serious loss of global GDP by the end of this century with catastrophic tipping points likely to occur in 10 to 15 years time. However, examination of the evidence for these alarming conclusions indicates that they are riven with deep uncertainties. Not only is the body of scientific data as to the existence of global warming at best equivocal but there is also now clear and disturbing evidence of distortions and suppression of evidence by leading proponents of the case for global warming.
A Lesson in Democracy also examines how the EU has taken upon itself the role of championing the ‘Fight against Climate Change’, recognising that public alarm at the perceived perils mankind is facing could be turned to account in extending its powers and standing. In doing so it has ignored the serious doubts cast over the IPCC and Stern reports and has set targets for cuts in CO2 emissions and for ‘renewable’ energy supply such that irreparable damage would be done to its subject economies were they to be fully implemented.
The paper traces the progress of the EU’s policy making in line with each of these reports and demonstrates that no process of democratic oversight or investigation has preceded its decisions. It has simply relied without question on the flawed IPCC reports and the Stern Review. It has not initiated any independent research into or analysis of the scientific basis of the case for global warming or the proportionate response that should be made. The paper contrasts this with the rigorous process of enquiry and research set on foot over 20 years by successive US Congressional Committees into every aspect of the subject and concludes that it is only to a robust and effective democracy that such decisions can safely be committed.
This is the enduring lesson of the global warming alarm.

STATEMENT FROM THE UK INDEPENDENCE PARTY

Following the article in The Sunday Times (dated April 4th 2010) the UK Independence Party would like to make the following statement to clarify any misunderstandings.
As with all political parties, UKIP receives many offers of donations (both financial and voluntary help) everyday, so it was not unwise for Stuart Agnew MEP to follow up the offer made to him. Perhaps, however, it was naive of Mr Agnew not to realise it was a Sunday Times reporter in disguise. We would like to make it clear that no transaction between Mr Agnew and The Sunday Times journalist took place.
The UK Independence Party did receive donations via Global Britain, in 2009 for the European Election Campaign. All these donations were, at the time, perfectly legal and within the guidelines set down by the Electoral Commission. These donations were fully disclosed by UKIP in the second quarter of 2009.
When asked by The Sunday Times reporter if her anonymity could be guaranteed, Lord Pearson, Leader of the UK Independence Party, clearly stated (as reported in the Sunday Times article) that he would check with the Electoral Commission and "if there was any doubt I would honestly rather go without.'"
Lord Pearson also added that he was regularly in touch with the Electoral Commission over Global Britain and all donations.
Mark Wadsworth, UKIP Treasurer, said today: "All donations or loans to the UK Independence Party have been reported to the Electoral Commission."

Following the article in The Sunday Times (dated April 4th 2010) the UK Independence Party would like to make the following statement to clarify any misunderstandings. More
This is how they do. This is what they do. First successful campaign -- Barry Goldwater. In the battle space of ideas, they offer nothing but destruction and slander. They never engage in debate. They destroy. They destroyed the greatest country in the history of the world. They use the word extremism as a club, when in fact it is a measurement. It is not good or bad. What does tea party "extremism" consist of -- that they will not compromise on the principles of freedom, that in political issues they defend individual rights? The left revolutionaries/weathermen were anti-American extremists, anti-capitalism and individual rights extremists. Ayn Rand said, "And then the 'extremism' of a believer in dictatorship would consist in his taking every possible action to enslave people and to violate rights." Would it be logical to say that he and I are equally to be condemned, merely because we each take an extreme, uncompromising stand in our particular views? Obviously the term has no meaning. No one could say that in political action you must never take an extreme position. It is the nature of your position, not your consistency in advocating it, that warrants support or condemnation. But the term 'extremism' implies the opposite. It is an attack on consistency -- on any consistency. Yet can you really consider consistency per se immoral?" (Objectively Speaking, page 25) Today they have equated patriotism with the terrorism of the sixties -- the revolution that destroyed this country. The evil forces triumphed in the sixties and won (without enormous bloodshed). I pray we too can win without a shot. This time for the good. The Times vilifies Americans today and romanticized female Muslim genocide bombers yesterday on the front page, lede story: "Lured into Russian Jihad, 17 year old Avenges Slain Husband." The husband was a bloodthirsty murdering jihadi. Do they discuss the religious motivation? No. Do they educate Americans on the Islamic text that demands, commands, prescribes jihad? No. They make it, "Jihad, a Love Story." "These religious ideas are very attractive, because they give a kind of alternative to the world that exists," said Zaur Gaziyev, editor in chief of Svobodnaya Respublika, an independent newspaper in Dagestan. "And so this young girl, who grew up without a father, who didn't know male power." This Times story on the tea parties is a battle cry, a call to every decent American to get out of his or her comfort zone and fight the great fight. Andrea Shea King has the story: Sunday NY Times Hit Piece Pictures Weathermen Terrorists With Tea Party Protesters Radio Patriot Another GOP office in Ohio was attacked two nights ago. A note was tied to the brick that was thrown through the window that said,“Stop the Right Wing.” A democratic donor was arrested for threatening to kill GOP House Whip Eric Cantor and his family earlier in the week. A brick was hurled through a GOP office in Michigan last weekend. Harry Reid supporters attacked the Tea Party Express Busand threatened Andrew Breitbart last Saturday. And, a democratic leader compared conservatives to the KKK in a radio interview this week. Also, far left Rep. Emanuel Cleaver backed down from his original statement that he was spit on by tea party protesters during a protest on Capitol Hill. And, it is clear now that the Black Caucus members and state-run media completely fabricated their story that the members of Congress were called the n-word by the tea party protesters. No one was able to collect the $100,000 reward for proof because there was no proof. It was a set up. So, with all of this evidence what is the state-run media to do? American Power reported tonight that The New York Times is posting a tea party protest-Weatherman mashup picture in tomorrow’s Week-in-Review section. These leftists in the democratic-media complex will not stop bashing the tea party movement, no matter what the truth is. American Power has more on the hit piece that goes with the protest photos. Maybe the Vatican was right. Maybe the Old Gray Lady is possessed. UPDATE: Libertas!

GENOCIDE OF WHITE SOUTH AFRICANS
"The death of Mr Terreblanche is a declaration of war by the black community of South Africa to the white community that has been killed for 10 years on end."
Eugene Terreblanche, leader of the Afrikaner Resistance Movement (AWB), was found brutally and savagely bludgeoned to death at his farm in South Africa's North West province. A 21-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy have been arrested and charged with his murder.
Every single headline calls Terreblanche a "white supremacist," alluding to his position in the waning days of the apartheid government, thirty-odd years ago. But the real story here is not that Terreblanche was a "white supremacist" -- if he really was (and I know how the left loves to throw around those labels). Whether he was or not, the man was brutally murdered, and I had to go through ten newspaper accounts to find out how he was murdered. The liberal media had to dehumanize him first. And not one newspaper account speaks of Black supremacism -- yet that is the really important story in South Africa today. All I see in South Africa is Black supremacism. Terreblanche may have been a white supremacist, but he's the dead one.
The white genocide is heating up in South Africa: South Africa race tension grows. The whites in South Africa are keenly aware of the plans to kill them, better known as "The night of the long knives." They expect it to happen very soon after the death of Mandela, but to tell this to the world is a waste of energy. Atlas has been reporting on this horror that the savages in the media ignore.
More than 3,000 White farmers have been murdered. The Boer farmers in South Africa are on Genocide Watch.org Alert.
Julius Malema, head of the ruling ANC's (African National Congress) Youth League, sings the racially charged apartheid-era song with the words "kill the Boer." South Africa's High Court ruled that the song was hate speech, although the ANC is appealing. The African National Congress (ANC) has been South Africa's governing party, supported by its tripartite alliance with the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the South African Communist Party (SACP), since the establishment of non-racial democracy in April 1994. It defines itself as a "disciplined force of the left".
Under ANC rule (which is communist party rule), the government has stopped reporting the race of murder victims and the race of the murderer. This is because the international community (mainly GenocideWatch.org) was noticing that there was a disproportionate amount of whites being murdered in South Africa -- so the ANC stopped reporting the race of victims of murder, so that there would be no way to track if murders were race based. Problem solved.
Boer is Afrikaans for a farmer, but is sometimes used as a disparaging term for any white in South Africa.
The genocide of Boers taking place in South Africa is never spoken of. Particularly the Boer Farmers -- it is called Plaas Moorde. In America you find little to no dialogue about the genocide of thousands of farmers in South Africa, because it's black against white. It is politically incorrect to call attention to the deaths of these human beings. And we have been taught to believe that the ANC and Nelson Mandela are the "good guys." The western media has made all whites in South Africa out to be racist monsters. This is simply not the case, and I would remind people that one of the steps to genocide is to dehumanize the target -- dehumanize the Boer. (more)

The leader of the Boer-Republican movement, Eugene Ney Terre’Blanche (66), has been murdered on his farm. Radio Pretoria reports on April 3 2010 that Terre’Blanche has been murdered by people with pangas on his farm near Ventersdorp. This followed just 12 hours after the North Gauteng High Court judge Eberhardt Bertelsmann had issued an order banning the ANC-genocide song “Shoot the Boer’ – saying it incited violence against a specific minority group and instilled fear in this group.
According to police the founder/leader of the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (Afrikaner defence movement) he was at his farm in Ventersdorp between 5 to 6 pm. He does not live there permanently. When police got there he was lying on the bed with fatal injuries to his head and upper body, he was still alive but died later. Police found a panga and a "knopkierie" (African fighting stick) and arrested two farm workers at the farm. According to them they ‘got in a argument’ with Eugene Terreblance and then admitted to killing him. He died because of his injuries and was declared dead at 7pm. AWB spokesman Andre Visagie said “Terre'blanche was beaten so badly "he didn't look like Eugene anymore". The AWB leader was alone on the farm at the time of the attack. Visagie said that Terre'Blanche's only security were his dogs which were "neutralised". Elation at ban of Julius Malema ‘Shoot the Boer’ chant
Four days earlier, the South Gauteng High Court had also ruled that the song ‘shoot the Boer’ (dubulu Ibhunu) is illegal, ruling that the use of the words is 'unconstitutional and unlawful’. The first ground-breaking ruling had been made in response to an urgent interdict by Delmas businessman Willem Harmse – and this ruling prevented his colleague Mahomed Vawda from using banners with these words and is also barred Vawda from singing the song during a planned march against the high rate of crime in Mpumalanga and Gauteng on April 9. Vawda had unsuccessfully argued that their words figuratively meant "kill apartheid" and wanted them chanted at the march. Harmse however argued the words “perpetuated hate speech and incited hatred”. The Court agreed with Harmse.
The orders would be effective until the first day the case is heard in the Equality Court, where it has been referred by Judge Bertelsmann – and where the ruling African National Congress has also lodged an appeal against the first finding. Bertelsmann said “democracy was still fragile and that those who participated in politics must consider that some things said could offend other groups.” The court on Thursday recognised the ruling African National Congress nd its Youth League as respondents.
- Malema refused to meet an ultimatum by civil rights group AfriForum to apologise for singing the song by last Friday. The youth league leader first sang it at a University of Johannesburg gathering and several times thereafter. His advocate Vas Soni said without these "freedom songs" people wouldn't have rejected an oppressive system. "We can't stop a person from embracing his history and culture."
AfriForum's advocate Louis Visser said the word "boer", in the context of the song, was derogatory ‘and referred to farmers, whites and Afrikaners in particular.”
Bertelsmann said that some people were threatened by the song could not be contested. Mediation was needed in the Equality Court to alleviate division in the national discourse, he said. AfriForum and the farmers' union Tau-SA, which was the second applicant, welcomed the court's decision saying it was not only a victory for them, but also for the whole country and Malema. "This ruling protects him from danger of being prosecuted or steps being taken against him," said AfriForum chairman Ernst Roets outside court."We are extremely happy."
Afriforum said the application was made because they thought "that the dust kicked up by Malema's repeated renderings of the song these past two weeks, had to settle".
- "Rationality has to return to the debate. The interdict now creates an equal playing field where greater sensitivity regarding the matter may develop," their lawyer Spies added. "Hopefully the interdict will contribute towards repairing the damage created in the process to some degree," said Spies. The decision comes just under a week after a ruling by the South Gauteng High Court that the words "shoot the boer" were unconstitutional and unlawful. March 15 2010 Four black men jave shot dead the wife of a farmer in Colenso on Sunday night.The farmer, 70, was shot twice, but he survived and was hospitalised, said Superintendent Jay Naicker."The farmer was busy milking cows with his employees when they were approached by four armed men who demanded cash. The wife, 64, was shot dead and he was shot twice but he survived," he said. Naicker said the attackers did not take anything and that the members of the Organised Crime Unit were investigating the matter. Journalist Andre Potgieter’s farm-murderers sentenced to effectively 40 years prison
2010-03-27 Mike van Rooyen Volksblad – A second man who was involved in the armed farm-attack murder against the writer/journalist André Potgieter (72) on his Waterbron-smallholding near Bloemfontein on June 13 2009, was sentenced to fifty years in prison by the Free State High Court. Isak Lebohang Molefe (24) was described as the ‘brain’behind the attack, said judge Mr M H Rampai.
His comrade-in-murder Joseph Moemi Lechuti (38), was earlier sentenced to 35 years by judge A Kruger for the 13 June 2009 farm-murder.
Rampai said the armed robberies of defenceless, eldery residents in their homes ‘was increasing at an alarming rate’, citing recent reports from Volksblad newspaper.
“My four-year-old granddaughter was shocked about what she saw about the attack on an elderly resident and wanted to know why it happened,’ said the judge. “The child could not explain why anyone would want to cause so much pain to another person”. He pointed out that the late Mr Potgieter had been “someone’s father and loving husband; a healthy, active man who looked after himself, made his own food, looked after his own clothing and garden. He was a writer, journalist, musician, photographer and community worker whose life was ended too early. He would probably still be alive today if it hadn’t been for your senseless deed.’ He denied applications for leave to appeal against the findings. The widowed Mrs Thomas of Lilac Avenue in Gardenia Park, Bloemfontein contacted the animal welfare society to remove some feral cats from her garden. She’s lived alone for the past two years – and was waiting on her front stoep for the arrival of the animal-wardens when a ‘tall black man aged between 24 and 30 sauntered over and asked her for a job. She said she couldn’t help him; he sauntered away but returned a bit later demanding that she give him money – and then stabbed her wth a knife above her left eye – then cut off her belt and put it around her neck, choking her with it. “He beat me and dragged me around the outside of the house,’ she said. He also jumped on her chest. “He was very strong’. He opened the front door with the housekey she always has around her neck and dragged her inside. However the old lady tried to put up a defence, “I gave him all kinds of hell,’ she said: her toes are bruised because she kicked him; and she also grabbed ornaments, beating him with them. Her attacker tied her up and locked her up in the bathroom. It took her several hours to free herself from her bond – and she managed to unlock the bathroom door with a spare key hidden inside the room, she said. She rushed to her neighbours who alerted the SAPS. And while the attacker could have emptied the house of all valuables he apparently only stole some meat, cheese and some clothing – those items are missing. Her stepson Denis, a Bloemfontein businessman, said it was ‘unacceptable what happened to my stepmom. She ‘s a good woman.’ He also said that she was a strong-willed person who will be able to deal with the traumatic experience. Police captain Chaka Marope confirmed the ‘house robbery’. No-one was arrested. Two days earlier, the Van Vuuren family was attacked by a six-member gang with knives and spades. April 2 2010 DispatchOnline – The ruling African National Congress party’s youth league president Julius Malema has defied a Gauteng High court order by publicly singing the banned genocidal hate-speech song 'Shoot the Boer’ and “Kill the Boer' from an ANC platform at the regional elections in Mthatha in theEastern Cape province on Thursday.
And as is often done by ANC-cadres at public events, the youth leader also made some adjustments to the lyrics, singing 'Dubula ibhunu” (Shoot the Boer)' and then very sarcastically adding: 'Kiss the Boer'.

Four days earlier, the South Gauteng High Court had also ruled that the song ‘shoot the Boer’ (dubulu Ibhunu) is illegal, ruling that the use of the words is 'unconstitutional and unlawful’. The first ground-breaking ruling responded to an urgent interdict by Delmas businessman Willem Harmse – which has prevented his colleague Mahomed Vawda from using banners with these words and is also barred from singing the song during a planned march against the high rate of crime in Mpumalanga and Gauteng on April 9. Vawda had unsuccessfully argued that their words figuratively meant "kill apartheid" and wanted them chanted at the march. Harmse however argued the words “perpetuated hate speech and incited hatred”. The Court agreed with Harmse.
The orders would be effective until the first day the case is heard in the Equality Court, where it has been referred by Judge Bertelsmann – and where the ruling African National Congress has also lodged an appeal against the first finding. Bertelsmann said “democracy was still fragile and that those who participated in politics must consider that some things said could offend other groups.”
The interdict follows after an urgent application made by AfriForum and the Transvaal Agricultural Union of South Africa against Malema -- who sang the hate-inciting genocidal chant on several occasions at various public events. Afriforum said the application was made because they thought "that the dust kicked up by Malema's repeated renderings of the song these past two weeks, had to settle".
- "Rationality has to return to the debate. The interdict now creates an equal playing field where greater sensitivity regarding the matter may develop," their lawyer Spies added. "Hopefully the interdict will contribute towards repairing the damage created in the process to some degree," said Spies. The decision comes just under a week after a ruling by the South Gauteng High Court that the words "shoot the boer" were unconstitutional and unlawful. Since the high-level ruling party-official Malema started spouting his hatespeech from dozens of public platforms, a great many Afrikaans-speaking whites have been murdered and brutally assaulted in racist hate-crimes. Johannesburg - One of Julius Malema's supporters is even placing "updates" of farm murders on the ANC Youth League leader's Facebook page. the FF+ warned that the ANC youth leader's controversial song "Shoot the boers, they are rapists" could incite farm murders. Malema's Facebook page has over 12,000 fans. One of them, Clearence Letlonkane, has been posting information about farmers being murdered, as reported on news websites, every few hours over the past few days.
- One of his updates reads: "3 000 farmers dead since '94... we lost more people than that... we r far from being even... So kill da boer, kill da farmer." Letlonkane also writes that "eight people have been murdered on farms in Limpopo since the beginning of February".When questioned about this, he commented as follows: "I haven't killed anyone, but I am not sympathetic to those who have been murdered... sue me for not shedding a tear."
- Ernst Roets, national chair of AfriForum Youth, has indicated that they will use the Facebook posts as evidence during the hate speech case against Malema which they've submitted to the equality court.Anton Alberts, the FF+'s parliamentary spokesperson for economics, said in a statement on Monday that "one doesn't have to give the matter much thought to realise that Malema's utterances are creating an atmosphere which is beneficial to those who want to murder"."The FF+ will do its part to stop this scourge in the political and legal arenas. The farming community will have to start protesting publically against the murders and the lack of a commando system.
