Deutschland sagt NEIN!
Politics List
===========
Well, that didn’t take long. See here
German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has made it clear that for Germany, Europe as (first and foremost) a single market is “non negotiable”. There must be “more Europe”, he says. They can figure out later what to call the end game but I am torn between The Fourth Reich and the Greater European Co-Prosperity Sphere. Bit of a mouthful, that second one but it might be snappier in the original Japanese.
At least it makes things clear. Cameron’s plans to renegotiate are dead in the water. We might as well crack on with negotiating market access under Article 50 and have that referendum. We wouldn’t want there to be years of uncertainty, would we now?
As a professional linguist who has lived, studied and worked in Belgium, France and Germany for 5 years, I shall be voting “out”.
