A few years ago, in a video which you can still watch online, we asked “what will they tax next?” With 299 tax hikes since the Coalition came to power, sadly we now have the answer. All those hikes mean politicians are increasing the tax take from £513 billion in 2009-10 to £671 billion in 2015-16 on the current plans, a real terms increase of 15 per cent. Given that the fiscal crisis came after a decade in which taxes went up, not down, we need the Government to cut spending and restore the public finances to health that way, not just find creative ways to take more of your money.

Second phase of HS2 announced

The second phase of the proposed new high speed rail line has been announced. We think there are more affordable ways of increasing rail capacity, more quickly, without spending well over £1,000 per family which is what the project will cost.

OFT agrees high taxes are to blame for high fuel prices

The Office of Fair Trading announced that its investigation found the pre-tax price of fuel in Britain to be relatively low.But the taxes on petrol and diesel here are the highest in the European Union. Politicians must, at the very least, continue to freeze Fuel Duty.

Councils cutting or freezing Council Tax

Windsor and Maidenhead announced a brilliant three per cent cut in Council Tax. Trafford are freezing the rate – Cllr Sean Anstee, from that council, is our first Pin-up this year. But other Greater Manchester councils are hiking the tax so we are organising a protest there on 16 February.
