I wanted to let you know that the National Taxpayers Union Foundation (NTUF) just released its line-by-line study of the President's State of the Union (SOTU) Address.

We found that if his proposals were enacted, taxpayers would witness a $83.4 billion federal spending increase. This figure takes into account the policy points and reforms that President Obama directly mentioned in his speech, whether they spend or save tax dollars.

However, this is not a study concerned with tax revenues or regulatory costs. I hope this information is of use to you!

Since the Clinton Administration, NTUF has been scoring the SOTU speech for what the President aims to do in the coming year. Since 1991, NTUF has tracked the fiscal impact of proposed legislation through BillTally, an accounting database that reports the "net annual agenda cost" for each Member of Congress based on sponsorships and co-sponsorships of pending legislation. For this analysis, NTUF matched Obama’s proposals with those in the BillTally system and in White House documents.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule an interview with the study's author, NTUF Director of Research Demian Brady, please do not hesitate to contact me.
