NHS whistleblower paid £500,000 to keep quiet over patient safety breaks silence to expose 'culture of fear'

'Gary Walker, who was head of a hospital trust that is now being investigated over high death rates, said he raised concerns four years ago with NHS chief executive Sir David Nicholson.
Mr Walker said he prioritised scarce resources on emergency care despite pressure from above to meet targets on non-emergency treatment “whatever the demand”, while he was chief executive at the United Lincolnshire Hospitals trust.
He claimed that on one occasion he was even ordered by a strategic health authority boss, now a senior NHS official, to take a hospital off “red alert” status – meaning that it was too full to take any more patients – because of a delicate budget meeting taking place at the time.'

Thousands Using GPS Jammers on UK Roads Pose Risks, Say Experts

'Thousands of people in the UK are using "GPS jammers" that plug into car cigarette lighters and can stop tracking systems used to detect stolen cars, monitor vehicle use or stop drivers working overlong hours, according to new findings from experts.
That could lead to the danger of overtired lorry drivers staying on the roads despite the presence of monitoring equipment, and could also pose a threat if vehicles equipped with the jammers were to go on to airport areas near aircraft which rely on GPS (global positioning system) for navigation.
Yet despite the risks posed by the devices – which are sold over the internet – it is not illegal to import, sell, buy or possess them. It is an offence only under the Wireless Telegraphy Act to "knowingly use" such a device to block GPS signals – though the communications regulator Ofcom is looking to close some of the loopholes.'

Banks Lured Up To a Quarter of Savers into Risking Their Nest Eggs on the Stockmarket

'As many as one in four savers could have been lured by banks into gambling their life savings in risky stockmarket investments, it emerged yesterday.
An investigation by the City watchdog has revealed how vulnerable customers were convinced by greedy salesmen to take big risks with cash they had put by as a nest egg. Yesterday the Financial Services Authority demanded banks review recent sales and pay back anyone who was misled.
It could open the door to huge compensation payouts for tens of thousands of customers who are understood to have lost many millions of pounds because of bad advice.'

Hillary Clinton Will Run for President in 2016 – Confirmed

'Angelo Tsakopoulos, a close friend and top political donor to the Clintons as well as the Democratic Party, confirmed that Hillary Clinton will seek the Democratic nomination in the next Presidential election.
Tsakopoulos told Greek Reporter that the former Secretary of State will run for President in 2016, putting an end to speculation over whether Clinton will make a second bid for President that has been circulating around the internet and international media.
“Hillary will be our next President and she will be a great one,” Tsakopoulos told Greek Reporter at a private gala in California this past weekend.'

The European Union and the US will begin formal talks on a free-trade agreement, paving the way for the biggest trade deal in history

'European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso made the announcement following President Barack Obama's State of the Union address. A deal would bring down trading barriers between the two biggest economies in the world.
EU-US trade is worth around 455bn euros (£393bn; $613bn) a year.
Mr Obama announced US support for talks as part of his annual address to Congress on Tuesday, saying a free-trade deal would "boost American exports, support American jobs and level the playing field in the growing markets of Asia".'

Real Earnings are Back to 2003 Levels and Millions of Families Will 'NEVER See Their Finances Recover from the Economic Downturn'

'Average earnings are now back to where they were 10 years ago as British workers continue to suffer from a toxic combination of pay freezes and rising costs of living, official data showed today.
Real earnings peaked in 2009, with the average wage at £12.25 per hour, but since then pay increases have been outstripped by inflation, knocking the average back down to where it was in 2003 at £11.21 per hour, the Office for National Statistics said.
And millions of families may never see their finances recover from the impact of the economic downturn, a leading think tank added.'

Two Years On, Benghazi is Out of Control

'As night fell over Benghazi, a familiar sound echoed across the eastern Libyan city – an explosion, and then gunfire. A bomb had just been thrown at a police car on patrol, injuring an officer.
Politicians said they would do many things but there was no change. People say they will do another revolution
It was the latest of many attacks on local security forces. Two months before, the man whose job it was to ensure Benghazi was safe, the police chief, was shot dead outside his home.
Two years after Libya’s second city kindled the uprising that ousted Muammar Gaddafi, it epitomises a popular revolution gone awry, with rival militias and Islamist gunmen more powerful than the police, moving residents to ask: where is the state?'

Hemp – It’s Uses & Cures

'Let’s start out with it’s un-refutable qualities, how resourceful and versatile this God given plant and why are we so deprived of it…
As for health, this is literally a well kept source of information that has been proven to do miraculous results.'

Bank of England Chief Warns Britons of Deteriorating Inflation

'Britain’s annual rate of inflation would stay higher for longer, the Bank of England (BoE) announced in its quarterly inflation report, British media reported.

According to the bank’s report, the inflation rate would remain above the 2.3 percent target for another two years, saying that it may even hit 3.2 percent by the third quarter of 2013.

The bank also predicted the inflation would return to target on early 2016, 18 months later than what was predicted in November.'

Intel’s television set top box will include a built-in camera that watches you in your living room

'The rumors were true — Intel (INTC) really is working to shake up the television industry by offering its own set top box that delivers live television broadcasts over the Internet. But there’s a catch — as AllThingsD reports, the box will include a built-in camera that’s designed to watch users in their living rooms to collect data on their viewing habits to better help marketers target their ads. Erik Huggers, Intel Media’s corporate vice president, told the D: Dive Into Media conference on Tuesday that users should think of the camera as a way to personalize their experience with their television, much in the same way that Google (GOOG) users allow the company to collect data on them and deliver personalized ads based on their search histories, email contents and Google+ posts.
“My kids may watch programming geared towards them, and I’ll watch programming geared towards me,” Huggers said. “If there’s a way to distinguish who is watching what, advertisers can then target ads at the proper parties.”'

Police failed to act on evidence of 'powerful paedophile ring' in 1994

If the reason for the non-investigation of elite paedophiles was due to police incompetence it would be bad enough, but it goes far deeper than that and the competence comes in how they block the exposure and arrest of paedophile politicians and royalty.Sleep well, chaps.
Decent proper coppers must tear their hair out.
'A person claiming to be Tom Watson’s source for his PMQ [Prime Minister's Questions] about “a powerful paedophile network linked to Parliament and No. 10″ has been posting comments on this blog. As I’ve said before, I have reason to believe they are who they say they are. This is their most recent comment, which shows that police failed to investigate the same allegations in 1994.'

Supreme Court Snubs Citizens Whose Social Security Will Be Confiscated If They Refuse Government Health Care

'Some of the U.S. Supreme Court’s most significant decisions are those declining to hear a case. Two weeks ago, the Court made such a momentous non-ruling in refusing to hear a lawsuit, Hall v. Sebelius, challenging government policies that deny otherwise eligible retirees their Social Security benefits if they choose not to enroll in Medicare.'
