The Gaza Truce: A Step Towards Peace Or A Silence Before The Storm?

It has been almost two months now since Israel and Hamas have engaged in the cold, unstable cessation of violence known as the “tahadiya” or the truce. While the truce has brought a significant decrease in rocket and mortar fire against Israel, the silence has not been absolute. Rogue terrorist organizations who oppose the agreement still launch occasional rocket and mortar attacks against Israel, directly threatening the fragile stand off. Yet while both sides try to adhere to the truce and engage in Egyptian mediated peace talks, both sides are also simultaneously training, rearming and readying their forces for the next round of violence, compelling one to ask: Where is the truce between Israel and Hamas leading? Is it a step towards peace or the silence before the storm? 08/06/08

Middle-East - Israeli Arab Suspected Of Spying For Hizbullah
An Israeli Arab suspected of spying for Hizbullah was recently arrested by the Shin Bet and Israel Police. Details released on Wednesday after a gag order was lifted revealed that Khaled Kashkoush ,29, a resident of Kalanswa who in recent years studied medicine in Germany, was recruited by by a Hizbullah handler there and paid the sum of 13,000 Euros to carry out activities on behalf of Hizbullah. He was arrested on July 16 at Ben Gurion International Airport.08/06/08

The 43 members of Israel's team for the Beijing Olympic games have arrived in China. Prior to their departure at Ben Gurion airport, several team members spoke to reporters of their feelings and hopes of returning home with a coveted Olympic medal.
