Syria to Russia: Put your missiles on our soil: Russian media on Thursday quoted Syrian President Bashar Assad as saying ahead of a two day visit to Moscow that Syria was ready to negotiate hosting Russian surface-to-surface Iskander missiles on its soil, which Moscow says are capable of penetrating any missile defense.

Russia says ready to supply Syria with defensive weapons: "We are ready, and Dmitry Medvedev has confirmed this, to review a Syrian request to purchase new types of weapons," Sergei Lavrov said following the meeting between Medvedev and Assad. "We will supply Syria primarily with weapons of a defensive nature that will not disturb the strategic balance in the region," he added.
