For once we have a clear statement of position from David Cameron - he stated without any ambiguity in his Harlow Declaration that "an incoming Conservative Government would not seek to undo the Lisbon Treaty if it had already been ratified".
We know it will be ratified in one form or another, most likely with special terms for
Ireland. There will be no special deal for the UK as our Government has already deposited the necessary acceptance document.
Interestingly Frederick Forsyth is on the record as saying he will not support the Tories if their manifesto fails to promise a referendum on taking office - I look forward to his wriggling on that undertaking.
The Tories do not avoid the Lisbon Constitution Treaty for the reasons suggested by the DT, but rather because they do not want to damage the progress to Ever Closer Union which most of them support. Cameron does not want to have this discussed as it would create a Tory split which they might not survive and he'd have to look for a proper job.
