Palin gives first TV interview

Sarah Palin has faced a grilling on foreign policy in her first TV interview since becoming John McCain’s presidential running mate. Palin, whose critics counter she lacks foreign policy experience, delivered a hawkish performance on ABC television, in which she warned that she would not hesitate to take on Russia – by commiting US troops if necessary in defence of Georgia and Ukraine.

The Alaska governor, who admitted last night that she had only made her first trip outside North America last year, said she was prepared to use “all options” in an international crisis.

"I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink. You have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we're on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can't blink," she insisted.

Palin also said she was ready to step in for McCain as president if the 72-year-old was incapacitated.
