In 1920/30s Germany a similar situation developed, and on the back of that Hitler rose to
power, forcing his enabling act through the Reichstag under armed threat.
If the EU has factions, then there could be fracturing under the current pressures.
The EGF (rapid reaction Military police force) could be mobilised to quash any dissent in member states.
Our government already have their enabling act Civil Contingencies Act 2004, under which draconian measures could be taken.
So shouldn't we be interested in the small print, and any potential pockets of division, in which we are not included?
