NOT PRIME TIME

“Get thee glass eyes and, like a scurvy politician, seem to see the things thou dost not.” [1]

October: the baseball playoffs are here again shedding moments of relief and inflated grace among the falling leaves. Now it’s a highly mediated distraction, but the more our culture deteriorates the more precious are the minutes and the more compelling is the call to lose oneself in an activity that at its core remains honest and recalls a better past.

In the first round of the playoffs there are as many as three games a day. One can hide from the nightmarish stampeding of the herd just about any time, -- if one ignores the Viagra ads and the realization that tens of millions of youngsters are being saturated by their message. The days when “endangering-the-morals-of-a minor” was a meaningful term are gone: postmodernism has taught us that morality, like everything else, like, say, BH Obama is a “social construct,” a fiction and that some fictions are more sacrosanct than others.

It’s October, the stock markets are plummeting again, like 1987, like 1929, preparing us for emergency measures, some already enacted. Many of the details have been discussed so our concerns here are not the political science of finance. In addition to preparing Americans for the overt emergence of a socialist “world collective,” one for which they or, rather, their “representatives” will petition, the rapid deflation of the markets also distracts people from the skeletons in Mr. Obama’s closets, emerging in time for Halloween. The story relates to some proximate causes of the financial meltdown.

On Saturday nights between eleven pm and midnight few people are watching in-depth news programming, baseball playoffs or not. It’s a perfect time to screen material “too controversial” for prime time; or perhaps it is a slight loosening of a spigot so that, perhaps, after a few weeks the drip of information will become acceptable to the framers of public discourse for what passes as discussion on the screen.

It was during such a time slot, late on October 4th that FOX news aired a program about the radical re-structuring of what’s left of the American Republic that has surrounded the adult life of Barack Obama. [2] The content was intriguing in that it documented matters treated as dubious or “over-the-top” by the anchor and guests on the same and other networks’ main news shows. Perhaps the split is for purposes of plausible deniability; perhaps it’s a case of both ends of the elephonkey talking simultaneously. Certainly it was material that Mr. Obama’s opponent hadn’t digested by the time of their debate.

Some of the most interesting information was provided by Peter Wallace, former General Counsel for the Treasury Department; it concerned “Fannie Mae” and her manly twin, “Freddy Mac” a pair of colossal public-private partnerships by which the government, via tax revenues, guarantees mortgages to low income borrowers. Wallace detailed how Clinton administration appointees pressured banks and other lenders to relax their standards for loans. There seems to have been de facto blackmail on lenders to greatly lower their standards for extending credit to applicants from the “minority community.” Groups of protestors, sometimes from Acorn would rally at the businesses or even the homes of recalcitrant lenders. Mortgages up to $250,000 were extended, no down-payment required to people with shaky or alarming credit histories.

Pressure came from the top, too. Wallace commented that if often wasn’t clear whether “Congress controlled Fannie Mae or Fannie Mae controlled Congress.” What was clear was that “if you crossed them, you got into trouble.” An assistant attorney General from the Clinton era made $27 million in about five years as an official at the mortgage behemoth. Franklin Raines, a periodic advisor on mortgages to the Obama campaign made $90 million in six years. But these gold-plated parachutes were peanuts compared to the accounting scandals that hid from Congress the fact that the lenders were creating a massive clot of worthless paper, what one person termed, “a derivative death star.” Just another part of the paper the government recently acquired on ‘our behalf’ for $200 billion.

It seems that part of the community organizing for which Senator Obama has been lauded actually was “organizing his career” as researcher Andrew Gilbert put it. The Solon from Illinois helped Acorn organize to pressure banks and lending firms to dish out shaky mortgages or get branded “racist” a charge against which there is virtually no defense. Senator Obama also is the second highest recipient (after Connecticut Democrat Chris Dodd) of “contributions” from FMAE while receiving vaster sums from the other major banks and investment firms in the nation. What a remarkable convergence of interests: Acorn, Fannie and Freddie, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, Lehman Brothers, Google, Inc, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan-Chase, the House Finance Committee: a remarkable assemblage of populists for the man now described openly as a “change agent.” It’s as if the Senator was the missing link between Bill O’Reilly and David Bowie: “the horror!”

There is after all a distinct devolutionary link: they all are wealthy entertainers although one of them seems to be secure in his gender, -- perhaps that is an atavism. One has sold millions of albums, tapes and CD’s, the others scads of books. [3]

It’s one thing to write an autobiography when you’re a millionaire TV star of 60 odd years, it’s another thing to be commissioned to write your autobiography when you’re thirty-two and an undistinguished College grad wealthy only in the friends you’re beginning or continuing to collect. It was reported that in addition to former Manhattan Borough President Percy Sutton, Khalid al Mansour helped lever Mr. Obama into Harvard, secure his book deal and make his way to fame and further friendships as a community organizer in Chicago. It is not just that Obama “launched his political career” as they now report in the home of Mr. Bill Ayers (1995) but that they were colleagues at the Woods Foundation. While there Obama also seems to have been mentored by Rashid Khalidi, a Professor of Arab Studies whose Edward Said chair at Columbia was endowed by several million dollars from the UAE. [4] Professor Khalidi and his wife, Mona reportedly served for six years for WAFA, the PLO news agency from 1976-82 when Arafat’s organization turned Lebanon into an anarchic slaughterhouse, “Fatah-land.” [5] According to the “History of Radicalism,” The New York Post (2005) and others, Mr. Khalidi funneled substantial emoluments to Obama via the Woods Foundation and then at a fund raiser at his home (2003). Obama seems to have followed the Professor closely. The latter published a piece in The Nation in April 2000 writing that Israel infects our foreign policy; the following month, the candidate-of-change published an article in the prestigious Atlantic writing that “Israel is a constant sore that influences our foreign policy.” [6] Sounds like a parody of influence. In any case, when Dr. Khalidi left Chicago for Columbia, William Ayers, Bernadette Dohrn, and State Senator Obama held a farewell fest.

Given the fall of American education which has climaxed in postmodernism it may be worth noting that Ayers is a Professor at the University of Illinois. Apparently setting bombs at various public buildings in Washington, at the home of a Judge, telling kids to “kill your parents” are the kind of achievements that get one a place in Academia today. This is why parents work themselves, or others, to death to spend up to $50,000 / year for “higher Education.” And despite the doctrines and power of feminism, perhaps another part of the credentials for employment in Academe, depending upon one’s political views is to pressure a young woman into submitting to rape in your apartment. [7] Perhaps there is an inverse ratio between such behavior and the carnage wrought on fathers and children by divorce courts the past thirty years, a system supported by the same pc malefactors; perhaps it also is refracted in the nasty comments directed at fathers by Mr. Obama on Father’s Day. A psychologist might say that he was projecting his own anger at the virtual disappearance of his own father and step-father forty some years ago.

At least he’s not a racist, notwithstanding his enduring presence at and commitment to the Reverend Jeremiah Wright and Minister Louis Farrakhan who has hailed Obama as the emergence of the Messiah. [8] This resemblance, and least in the packaging and selling of the candidate has been noticed by many people for quite some time; it is a basic part of the Obama phenomenon: the savior who never answers a question save with platitudes about what we should be and do; this “scurvy politician,” this hollow man anointed as “eloquent” and “brilliant.” His apotheosis seems part of a world-wide trend like collapsing markets and Premier Putin’s growing predilection for having himself filmed while performing manly stunts, judo, etc.; like the pending release of the ‘fictional biography’ “W” by Oliver Stone about the outgoing President. Surely it will be as fair and balanced as his other films. How remarkable that it is scheduled for release less than three weeks before the election. This atop the thousands of fraudulent votes Acorn already has helped various persons cast for this pampered scion of change and redemption.

No; these kinds of betrayal and camaraderie are not for prime time. Add Obama’s support for the “Global Poverty Relief Act” ($870 billion over thirteen years, if we last that long), the similar “Jubilee Act” (S. 2133, $70 billion for canceling debts of foreign nations) and consider if America would survive four or even two years down this path: checkmate.
