Editor's NoteThe dust is only just starting to settle on Monday's pre-budget report. In government departments and accountancy practices up and down the land people will be beavering away trying to figure out how to put Darling's rescue package of policies into practice.

The VAT cut will furrow a few brows in the private sector, it can be safely assumed. After all, we haven't seen a change in the standard rate of VAT since 1991. Thankfully, help is at hand. Rebecca Benneyworth (and David Rothenberg) have some excellent advice for you on the implications of the change, and how to implement it.

Of course, if the chancellor himself is admitting times are tough, accountants should be facing up to the recession too. Steve Pipe of AVN is here this week to answer your questions about fee levels in an increasingly competitive market.

And a quick congratulations to member Eileen McMorrow, who won this year's Chiltern PBR tax sweepstake. She gets an iPod Touch for guessing how many times the chancellor would say the word 'tax'. To find out what was the most common word in this year's PBR, click here.
