JCPenney OPENS More 
Stores, Doing Just Fine

The list of major US retailers closing stores came to us with JCPenney listed as closing some stores.  That is NOT the case and we regret the inaccuracy contained in the story as we received it.  We congratulate JCPenney on its success which clearly derives from superior merchandise and realistic retail pricing...and outstanding service.  We received the following kind clarification from JCPenney.  -ed   From Darcie M Brossart    We have noticed that (a story on) your site has JCPenney listed as a retailer that is "closing stores after January." With half of America shopping at JCPenney at over 1,000 stores across the U.S., the largest general merchandise site on the Internet, and one of the largest catalog businesses in the country, we can assure you that JCPenney is opening stores, not closing them. In fact, on our last week's third quarter earnings call we announced that we have completed the opening of 36 stores in 2008, and our plans to open 17 additional stores in 2009.
