BBC slashes spending amid fears of funding crisis
BBC Worldwide, the broadcaster's commercial arm, has imposed a freeze 
on almost all recruitment. The rest of the BBC's 18,000 staff, 
already in the middle of a 15 per cent redundancy programme, will 
find their spending under even greater pressure with particular 
emphasis on reducing spending on fringe expenses such as taxis and 
corporate hospitality.
The BBC had planned to sell most of TV Centre, which is next to 
Westfield, the newly-opened shopping centre - -creating a £140m hole 
in the corporation's finances for the next five years.
The director general flew out of Heathrow  to a conference on the

Pound falls to 6-year low against dollar
The pound took another hammering on Thursday, dropping to a six-and-a-
half year low against the dollar and hitting a record low against the 
euro.
