Stephen O'Brien reveals that NHS civil servants are enjoying pay
rises up to 13% while frontline staff are squeezed at 1.9%
Shadow Health Minister, Stephen O'Brien is quoted in The Guardian:

"New Labour have presided over a culture of soaring salaries for top
civil servants, while frontline staff have been squeezed. There seems
to be one rule for hard working nurses, and quite another for top
bureaucrats at the Department of Health. Is it not hypocritical of
civil servants to award themselves pay rises like this while telling
the nurses who serve our NHS so diligently that they must accept an
effective pay cut?"

Holy straight bananas - now the Eurocrats are banning moth balls
They have just reversed their ban on knobbly carrots, but now the

Eurocrats have a surprising new target - moth balls via their REACH
(Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of CHemicals) directive.

For generations, moth balls have conjured up images of an ageing
grandparent's wardrobe, crammed with rarely-used coats and suits.
Now, however, the traditional pungent smell will become a thing of
the past because of new EU restrictions on a chemical - naphthalene -
of which many of the small, white balls are made. Moth balls have
long been used to protect garments from moths and moth larvae. (S.

Gordon Brown's enforcer, Liam Bryne, has given civil servants an 11
page memo detailing when they should bring him coffee and soup.
The Labour MP, set out exactly how staff should behave towards him.

The document, entitled Working With Liam Byrne, gives a series of
detailed instructions that would embarrass the most demanding showbiz
diva.
Mr Byrne's list of do's and don'ts declares: "Coffee/Lunch. I'm
addicted to coffee. I like a cappuccino when I come in, an espresso
at 3pm and soup at 12.30-1pm.
"The room should be cleared before I arrive in the morning. I like
the papers set out in the office before I get in. The white boards
should be cleared.
"If I see things that are not of acceptable quality, I will blame
you."  [reams more like this!] (S. Telegraph  16/11/08)

"Four years after the Constitution, one year after the LisbonTreaty:
Is the EU being held hostage by its citizens?"

Hot on the heels of Hans-Gert Pöttering MEP's hope  that Americans
would be as excited at next year's the European parliamentary
elections as Europeans were excited by America's election we learn of
another out-of-touch MEP. Graham Watson, LibDem MEP, will be
addressing the above question at a meeting of the British Chamber of
Commerce in Belgium. " If only", is my reply.   (Conservative Home

Hazel Blears on why the BNP prospers: "Shouting 'Nazi' is not the
answer"
"Estates that have been ignored for decades; voters taken for
granted; local services that have failed; white working-class voters
who feel politicians live on a different planet
. In such a political
vacuum, the BNP steps in with offers of grass-cutting, a listening
ear and easy answers to complex problems." - Hazel Blears [MP and the
Communities Secretary] quoted in The Guardian  (ConservativeHome

The REAL reason the Ross and Brand show was broadcast: BBC bosses
actually thought it was funny

The BBC executive who could have stopped the Radio 2 broadcast of
obscene phone calls by Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand judged them
'very funny'.  [Why on earth is he still going to be on air, despite
the condemnation by the BBC Trust? ? -cs]    (Mail 22/11/08)
