The Mumbai terror attack's first prototype: Mike's Place, Tel Aviv, 2003

Mumbai attackers follow an earlier al Qaeda mode of operation
Five years ago, al Qaeda enlisted two Pakistani British Muslims to land by sea in Tel Aviv, seize a large beachside hotel and the nearby US embassy, take hostages and shoot as many as possible.
Those directives recurred strikingly - albeit on a mega-scale - in the Islamist terrorists' method of operation in Mumbai, on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
Had the pair of bombers carried off their Tel Aviv mission as instructed, less than two years after 9/11, it would have resonated hugely for al Qaeda.

Indian Air Force
DEBKAfile's military sources report that on Sunday, Nov. 30, Asia's two nuclear powers, India and Pakistan, took their first steps towards a conventional war. India, claiming evidence of Pakistan's involvement in the Islamist terrorist assault on Mumbai, placed its air and missile units on war preparedness, while Pakistan, disclaiming the charge, diverted its armed divisions from the Afghan border to its frontier with India.
Military experts fear a full-blown war could spill over into combat with tactical nuclear weapons.

Islamist terrorist Azzam Amir Kassab, 21: A brutal killing machine captured alive
The number of murdered hostages in one of worst, most deliberate terrorist attacks ever on an Israeli-Jewish community outside Israel rose to nine Saturday, Nov. 29, after the Indian government wrested control of its financial center from Islamist terrorists.
The singling out of foreign-patronized sites and US, British and Jewish victims is seen by many experts as a hallmark of an al Qaeda-led operation, possibly in association with other groups. Indian fingers point at Pakistan as its base.

Intense Palestinian mortar fire injures 8 Israeli soldiers opposite Gaza
DEBKAfile Special Report
November 29, 2008, 12:05 PM (GMT+02:00)
Hamas took responsibility for the Palestinian mortar barrage directed Friday night, Nov. 28, at the IDF base near Nahal Oz opposite the Gaza Strip. Six men and women soldiers remain in hospital. Staff at Beersheba's Sorocca hospital stabilized two seriously injured soldiers overnight, but had to amputate the leg of one of them.
DEBKAfile's military sources report that by claiming the attack the Hamas terrorist group makes nonsense of defense minister Ehud Barak's policy of "preserving the ceasefire."
