(IsraelNN.com) According to a report on Middle East Newsline, President-elect Barack Obama has dispatched his "senior foreign policy adviser", Robert Malley to Egypt and Syria to outline Obama's policy on the Middle East.
Malley reportedly relayed a promise from Obama that the United States would seek to enhance relations with Cairo and reconcile differences with Damascus.
"The tenor of the messages was that the Obama administration would take into greater account Egyptian and Syrian interests," an aide to Malley was quoted as saying. The aide said Obama plans to launch a U.S. diplomatic initiative toward Syria. Malley met both Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad "to explain Obama's agenda for the Middle East."
F-16s for Egypt
Aides to Malley also said that Obama told Mubarak that the United States would maintain military and civilian aid and sell advanced F-16 aircraft to Cairo. Egypt has not ordered F-16s in nearly a decade.
Malley was an advisor to President Bill Clinton and played an active role in the Camp David summit with Ehud Barak and Yasser Arafat. He later published an article in which he laid some of the blame for the failure of those talks on Israel's doorstep.
International Crisis Group
In May 2008, Malley said in an interview that he had been in regular contact with Hamas, as part of his work for a conflict resolution think-tank called the International Crisis Group. This aroused ire and concern in pro-Israel circles, and prompted a spokesman for Obama to say that “Rob Malley has, like hundreds of other experts, provided informal advice to the campaign in the past. He has no formal role in the campaign and he will not play any role in the future.”
One of the sponsors of the International Crisis Group is billionaire George Soros, who sits on its board and its executive committee. Other members of the board include former United States National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter, Zbigniew Brzezinski, and former general Wesley Clark, who called US support for Israel during the Second Lebanon War a "serious mistake" and said that "New York money people" were pushing the United States towards a confrontation with Iran.
Obama promised U.S. reconciliation with Syria

WASHINGTON — Presidential-elect Barack Obama has pledged to improve U.S. relations with Syria and Egypt.
Aides said Obama had sent senior foreign policy adviser Robert Malley to Egypt and Syria to outline the Democratic candidate’s policy on the Middle East.
The aides said Malley, who served in the administration of President Bill Clinton, relayed a pledge from Obama that the United States would seek to reconcile with Damascus as well as enhance relations with Cairo.
The aide said Obama plans to launch a U.S. diplomatic initiative toward Syria, regarded by the Bush administration as a leading supporter of the Al Qaida insurgency in Iraq. Obama, unlike President George Bush, has also supported Israeli peace negotiations with the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
“The tenor of the messages was that the Obama administration would take into greater account Egyptian and Syrian interests,” the aide said.
Malley, the aides said, met both Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Syrian President Bashar Assad to explain Obama’s platform. The aides said Obama signaled to Mubarak that the United States would maintain military and civilian aid and sell advanced F-16 aircraft to Cairo. Egypt has not ordered F-16s in nearly a decade.
Obama, himself, was also said to have met Arab leaders who arrived in the United States over the last three months. The aides said the leaders included Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
“Obama’s message is that he strongly supports a Palestinian state,” the aide said.
Obama aides said they would coordinate with the outgoing Bush administration. They said the presidential-elect supports an intensive final drive by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to conclude arrangements for a Palestinian state in the West Bank in 2009.
“Obama would prefer an engaged administration to use the next two months to work out any details that could be implemented next year when he enters office,” the aide said.
Analysts said Obama would probably confront a Middle East crisis soon after entering office in January 2009. They said the most imminent crisis would be that of Iraq as well as the confrontation between Hamas and the PA.
“The next U.S. president will face unprecedented challenges and dangers in the Middle East, with few good options and precious little time to waste,” Michael Eisenstadt, senior fellow at the Washington Institute, said. “If the next president is to succeed in advancing American interests, he will need to engage the Middle East to an unprecedented degree, avert or deter the wars that can be avoided, and skillfully manage the one or more wars that are almost certain to occur on his watch.”

OBAMA LETHAL FOR ISRAEL: OBAMA SENDS HAMAS LOVER, ROBERT MALLEY TO EGYPT AND SYRIA
Obama hasn't even taken office yet and he is sending annihilationist sympathizers and enablers to Syria and Egypt. I kid you not. Do not expect big (but getting smaller) media to report this. As Chris Matthews (of the sexual tittering leg said), My Job Is To Help Make Obama’s Presidency a Success. Malley to Syria must be part of the media's new mantra and central theme - 'undoing what Bush did'.
Back in May, Barry Rubin predicted that Obama would choose Robert Malley, a former State Department official who criticized Israel for its role in the failure of the Camp David peace talks in 2000, to be director of policy planning, if elected. And Rubin said it was no accident that Obama's recent reference to the Israel-Palestinian conflict as "a constant sore" was the same phrase Rashid Khalidi, a professor of Arab studies at Columbia University, has used in an article in The Nation.
The message was that the Obama administration would take into greater account Egyptian and Syrian interests," an aide to Mr. Malley said.
Obama, according to the aide, plans to initiate a diplomatic initiative towards Syria, reversing the policy of President Bush, who regards Syria as a leading supporter of insurgency in Iraq.

(IsraelNN.com) Hamas must recognize Israel as a condition for talks with the administration to be formed by President-elect Barack Obama, his spokesman Dennis McDonough said Saturday night.
He was responding to a Hamas statement on Friday that it wanted to talk with the President-elect Obama despite negative statements Hamas made during the recent presidential campaign.
During the US presidential election campaign, Obama's spokesman stated, "Sen. Obama strongly opposes talking to Hamas, a terrorist group committed to Israel's destruction. As president, he will work to isolate Hamas and target its resources, and rejects any dialogue until Hamas recognizes Israel, renounces terrorism, and abides by previous agreements."
Khaled Mashaal, leader of the Syrian-based political office of Hamas, told British Sky News Saturday that the terrorist organization is ready to talk with the new Obama government "on the basis that the American administration respects our rights and our options."
On Friday, de facto Gaza prime minister and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh commented, "We are ready to hold a serious dialogue with the new United States president."
Mashaal cautioned the U.S. that if it wants to be involved in the Middle East, it has "no other option than deal with Hamas because we are a real force on the ground."
(IsraelNN.com) Hamas leader and Gaza de facto prime minister Ismail Haniyeh said Sunday morning he would recognize Israel but only on condition that the Jewish state accept a legal Arab regime in an independent state including Judea, Samaria and Gaza. "A Palestinian state will not be created at this time except in the territories of 1967," he stated. "Our conflict is not with the Jews, our problem is with the occupation."
Haniyeh did not make any mention of the conditions set by Israel, the European Union (EU) and the United States that it abandon terrorism and accept existing PA-Israeli agreements.
