Bill Bryson on Waste Dumping

I read with great interest the article in your latest issue quoting Bill Bryson’s concerns about the dumping of waste on the British landscape – a theme he has also developed in a recent television broadcast.

Surely someone should tell Mr Bryson about the regulations from Brussels which encourage fly tipping, particularly on an industrial scale.

We had little problem with the disposal of commercial waste until Brussels obliged councils to introduce new regulations regarding the disposal of rubbish, and introduced mandatory costs for what had previously been a public service.
