IDF Declares Peace House area a "Closed Military Zone"

(IsraelNN.com) Brigadier-General Noam Tivon, commander of the Hevron brigade, declared the Peace House area a "closed military zone" late Tuesday morning, restricting civilian activity in the area. The area was the scene of rock throwing between Jews and Arabs Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Border Police sent to the scene were accused of brutality after a 15-year-old was lightly wounded in the hand and chest by a stun grenade launched by the troops. The Border Police have also used tear gas.

Photographer Sparks New Violence in Hevron

(IsraelNN.com) Violence continued between hundreds of Arabs and Jews near the Peace House in Hevron on Tuesday morning after a photographer apparently told the Arabs to start throwing stones. Two Jews were lightly wounded by the rocks. Two Jewish activists were arrested for throwing stones.

Despite the presence of forces for the anticipated eviction of the residents of the Peace House, it took 20 minutes for Border Guards to arrive, and activists told Arutz 7 that they launched stun grenades at the Jews. A 15-year-old boy was lightly wounded in the hand and chest by one of the grenades. Yassam special police units arrived later to break up the two sides.

Dozens of Israeli cars driving to the area of the Tomb of the Patriarchs were damaged by Arabs throwing rocks. More soldiers and police are being sent to the area.

(IsraelNN.com) The Border Police special Yassam troops entered the city of Hevron on Tuesday, Jewish residents reported. The special forces deployed according to an order from the IDF Central District Command. Yassam troops are known for their experience in dealing with violent protests, and have often been accused of violence against protesters.

At the same time, IDF reservists were called to the area and stationed on Highway 60, which runs from Gush Etzion to Hevron. Soldiers were told to forbid Israelis who are not residents of the Hevron area to enter. Non-residents are usually blocked from a particular region prior to an expulsion of Jews from the area.

On Tuesday morning, the IDF declared the area around the Peace House in Hevron a closed military zone, where civilian movement is seriously restricted.

Protests continued near the Peace House in Hevron, where Jewish residents have been threatened with expulsion. Jewish Front head Baruch Marzel of Hevron criticized the army's decision to send extra troops to the area. “This is a miserable decision, stationing a force here will just add fuel to the fire,” he said. “We've seen that the Border Police have deficient judgment. Stationing the force here will lead to further violence.”

Several violent incidents were reported on Tuesday as Arabs attempted to keep Jews from reaching the Peace House and clashed with Jews who were already there. A 16-year-old girl was hospitalized after she and her friends were attacked by a group of Arab men as they made their way to the Peace House. She is in light condition.

A 16-year-old youth was seriously wounded in a separate attack. Arabs threw a large stone block from a nearby building and hit his head. He suffered a broken skull and required immediate surgery. The public has been asked to pray for him, using his Hebrew name of Elyasaf ben Nurit.

Hevron Jews Blame Israeli Police for Fractured Skull

(IsraelNN.com) Sources among the Jewish community of Hevron blamed, Tuesday afternoon, the serious head wounds a boy suffered near the Peace House on Israel's Border Police and regular Police. The sources, preferring not to be identified by name, accused both police forces of acting against the Jewish families who live in the house, and against Israel rights activists, but not acting to stop the Arab brutality.

One source said, "It's amazing that there still hasn't been a single Arab arrested out of all those dozens who've been throwing so many cinderblocks."

(IsraelNN.com) Arabs and Jews have been clashing in the area adjacent to Peace House, which is the focus of intense Land of Israel activism ahead of a feared eviction operation there. A Jewish youth was seriously injured by Arab rock-throwers. Tension remains high Tuesday and IDF forces are on alert in the area.

Clashes between hundreds of Jews and Arabs in Hevron on Monday night and Tuesday morning led to injuries, smashed windows, burnt vehicles and other damage in the vicinity of Peace House. Groups of Arabs and Jews pelted each other with rocks, leading to the arrest of two Jewish youths and an IDF deployment to prevent Arab terrorist attack on the Jewish community in Hevron.

Local residents told Arutz Sheva-Israel National News that the violence this morning began when a photojournalist turned up and incited an Arab mob to throw rocks towards the Jewish area. Hundreds of Jews responded in kind, which led to a general confrontation that included wounded individuals and extensive damage. One Jewish boy was seriously injured by a rock thrown from among the Arab mob. IDF soldiers, border guards and riot police responded to the situation with gas and stun grenades, eventually halting the clash.

A Land of Israel activist in Hevron's Peace House claimed, "The Border Guard forces only turned up 20 minutes after the riots broke out and threw stun grenades specifically at the Jews."

Following similar rock-throwing clashes Monday evening, several Arab-owned vehicles were set ablaze by Jewish youths. Extensive property damage to Arab stores and homes was reported as well.

A tense quiet, overseen by the IDF, was holding by Tuesday afternoon. The regional IDF commander declared the Peace House area a "closed military zone," issuing the order to residents of the neighborhood.

Hundreds of people from Judea and Samaria have been making their way to Peace House since yesterday to help prevent what they see as an illegal and immoral eviction of the Jews living there. Hundreds also expressed their protest by blocking Hevron access roads and other main thoroughfares in Judea and Samaria, including the Route 1 highway in the Jericho area. In clashes with police and the IDF, three people were injured and 30 activists were arrested.

Kedumim Mayor Daniella Weiss, who is at Peace House, said that "the government is exclusively responsible" for the clashes in Hevron, due to its decision to expel Jews from their homes in the Land of Israel.

Right-wing activist Itamar Ben-Gvir was kept out of Peace House by security forces. An IDF commander told Ben-Gvir to "stop being violent," with no explanation of what violence the commander had in mind.

"Violence is what you're doing to us," Ben-Gvir said, referring to himself, his supporters and perhaps to the Hevron Jews facing imminent eviction.
