Petition Protesting Washington Post's Biased Reporting On Israel

The Washington Post is syndicated throughout the world through what is called the Washington Post News Service, and its news and op-ed articles are reprinted in many other news publications throughout the world. Just two days ago the Post ran a ridiculously twisted op-ed piece by Turki al-Faisal, a prominent former high level Saudi Arabian official, trumpeting the so-called Arab peace initiative. In it he said the rights of the Palestinian people derive from "divinely inspired texts." ( Peace for the Mideast, How Our Plan Could Aid Barack Obama's Efforts, December 26, 2008; A2) I'm sure you're aware that nowhere in any Islamic texts is there any reference to the Palestinian people, and in fact, until 1948 the Jews in Palestine were called Palestinians. The Jerusalem Post used to be called the Palestine Post. But the reason I bring up Turki al-Faisal's op-ed piece is that no sooner than the Washington Post ran the piece, news publications throughout the world picked it up and ran it, crediting the Washington Post' with being the source. The Post's prestige, therefore, gets spread throughout the world, along with its anti-Israel bias.

Please Help Us To Help Israel - Please Sign Our Petition Urging The Washington Post to Report Accurately and Fairly on Events in Israel and The Disputed Territories

Eye On The Post has launched a petition protesting the Washington Post's biased reporting on Israel, and we need your help.

As recently as last week the Post, in reporting on Israel's denial of entrance to a UN human rights rapporteur, Richard Falk, sought to make Israel appear belligerent and oppressive by eliminating numerous facts about Falk's background. Among other facts, the Post eliminated any reference to Falk having in the past repeatedly compared Israel to the Nazi regime and Israel's actions to the Holocaust. You can read our "Alert" about this latest example of Washington Post bias on our web site by clicking here.

Reporters and editors at the Washington Post have in the past argued that they receive so few reader complaints about their reporting on Israel that those who do complain are limited to a small number of disgruntled individuals who only want good things reported about Israel. We know from our discussions and correspondence with thousands of you over the past six years that this is untrue, but the Publisher and Executive Editor of the Post appear to be unaware of the depth of discontent in the community.

This is the time to speak out and let our voices be heard. We therefore are gathering signatures on a petition that will reflect to the Post's leadership the true magnitude of community disappointment with the Post. With a new Publisher and Executive Editor at the Washington Post and with a dwindling readership, due in part to the agenda based journalism of its reporters, this is an important opportunity to let our views be known in an effort to improve Israel's treatment by the newspaper. At a later date, we will notify other media outlets of the results of our petition campaign, and we will deliver the petition to the Post.

We ask all who care that Israel is presented fairly in The Washington Post to act now. Please go to our website and sign the petition and forward a request to your family, friends, colleagues and email lists that they do the same. You can either click on to the link below to go directly to the petition or go to our website at http://www.eyeonthepost.org and click on the petition link at the top of the home page.

Since the Washington Post is the premier newspaper in our nation's capital and its articles are syndicated to newspapers throughout the world, signatures from Post readers all over the world are welcome.
