The EU's response to the recession: reduce working hours
The British Government's lamentable response to the financial crisis? Bail-outs, nationalions, spending splurges and borrowing sprees. The EU's? All of the above - plus cutting the hours that we are allowed to work.
Employers might have thought that things couldn't get much worse. They reckoned, alas, without the European Parliament. The above clip is my lonely one-minute protest against the European Parliament's latest insanity. The socialist MEP I am being polite about is, by the way, the cousin of the brilliant novelist, Javier Cercas, whom I wrote about here. It just shows that a man can be clever, engaging and terribly wrong.
