EU Wants A Symbolic Animal
A new and devastating omission has been detected in Brussels. The banner (called a ?flag by Brussels), the anthem and the motto have all been brought back via the back door, having been dropped from the Lisbon Treaty
BUT, the EU has no symbolic animal or bird logo. The Americans have their eagle, the Chinese their panda, the British their lion. But the EU has…well, nothing. Quite right too, I hear you shout.
But no, in Brussels-speak, this gaping hole must be filled at once! To hell with the expense, even taxpayers money.
The Constitutional Affairs Committee of the European Parliament has been charged with making recommendations. The choices offered to members are based, we have been told in all seriousness, on the views of ?EU experts - who must be a previously unknown species of mythical creature.
As a member of this committee, I have been invited to place bull, turtle, elephant, lion, dove and owl in our own order of preference. No, I am not joking.
At the risk of tempting you beyond endurance, I invite readers to let me have their suggestions. At the risk of being thrown out of the next meeting of the committee in January I will put the most imaginative and rude suggestions to the disbelieving multitude then assembled.
My own suggestion a crocodile. Will bite your arm off as soon as look at you.
