The Israeli Air Force dropped fliers over the southern Gaza town of Rafah on the Egyptian border Wednesday night, Jan. 7, advising dwellers of the districts connected to the Philadelphi smuggling tunnel system to leave their homes, indicating a major operation is coming. Dozens of tunnels were demolished but Hamas could still restore it if given the chance.

A Hizballah Fajr-5 rocket hits Afula in 2006

Israel announced Wednesday, Jan. 7 a three-hour daily halt in military operations from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. as a goodwill gesture for the passage of humanitarian aid. Israel will suspend attacks in certain areas to allow people to get supplies. As the pause took effect, Ashkelon took 4 rockets.

DEBKAfile's military sources report that Hamas appears to have stocked Iran-made Fajr rockets capable of hitting central Israeli towns, such as Rehovot and Rishon Lezion, 16 km short of Tel Aviv.

Israel Combat Engineering Unit chief denies officer killed by suicide bomber

"Lt. Col. Amir" said in an Israeli TV interview that Israeli paratrooper 1st Sgt. Alexander Mashvitzki, was killed in close combat with a Hamas terrorist Tuesday, Jan. 6, who was then shot dead. He was not a suicide bomber. The unit had disarmed hundreds of varied explosive devices.
