Dear Editor:
There are four Palestinian documents and one Israeli law which should be analyzed before anyone conveys an opinion pertaining to the Palestinian Israeli conflict.
The Hamas 1988 charter, the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) 1964 charter (amended in 1968), the 1964 Fatah constitution and the 1988 Israeli law. The PLO charter and the Fatah constitution were created three years before the 1967 war. The charter and the constitution declared that the establishment of Israel was illegal and void, and that armed conflict must be utilized in order to eliminate the zionist entity.
The Hamas charter declared that “Israel exists and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.” “Hamas strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine.” “There is no solution to the Palestinian question except through Jihad.” “Incentives, proposals, and interim conferences are a waste of time.”
The 1998 Israeli law precludes a political party from running for seats in the Knesset if it promotes racism. Israeli courts have held that this law prevents the Koch party which promotes removing Israeli attacks from Israel, from holding any seats in the Knesset.
The Fatah constitution and the Hamas charter have never been modified nor annulled. There was an attempt in December 1998 to modify the PLO charter, however as of January 2009, there has never been any official physical change in the PLO charter.
There are at this moment three official documents from the three Palestinian parties which clearly state that they want to eliminate Israel. Any Palestinian verbiage which refers to peace in exchange for Israel’s return to the 1967 borders, is mere propaganda with no substance in fact.
Contrast the content of the three Palestinian documents which call for the elimination of Israel with the 1988 Israeli law which precludes an Israeli political party promoting racism from participating in the Israeli Knesset and you would be compelled to arrive at the only one conclusion which side really wants peace.
Sincerely yours,
William K. Langfan
