A Free Press For A Free People Why is the U.S. putting $900,000,000 of U.S. taxpayer wealth in the hands of Gaza terrorists? Few Americans are likely to know the answer - especially in times as hard as these economically.   Few people are talking about this wealth transfer into the hands of some of the most violent enemies of the U.S. and Israel on the Planet.   But Jamie Glazov, author of "United in Hate: The Left's Romance with Tyranny and Terror," is. The rebuilding of Hamas' killing machine with U.S. tax dollars is the latest example, he says.   by Jamie Glazov The image is a disturbing but totally expected one: Islamofascists doing the Nazi salute and Western leftists prostrating themselves before them and, sadder yet, sending them money. There's been a long and ugly tradition of the left romancing tyrants and terrorists, and the Obama administration has now picked up the torch – flirting with Hamas and planning to hand over $900 million of American taxpayers' money into its blood-soaked hands. Hamas, just in case you're new to the political scene, is the Palestinian Nazi Party. That's why its members do charming little things like engage in the Nazi salute. And that's why their favorite book of all time is "Mein Kampf." It's pretty easy for them to get their hands on it, seeing that Hitler's touching screed is a best-seller among Palestinians. Perhaps it's not a total surprise, therefore, that the not-so insignificant Article XI exists in Hamas' Charter, basically stating that the sole purpose of the organization is to exterminate Jew s from the face of the earth and, of course, to annihilate the state of Israel. That's why Hamas has been terrorizing Israel and killing its innocent civilians for years, perpetrating suicide attack s and firing rockets consistently at the Jewish nation since 2001. As we are well aware, Hamas intensified its campaign of genocide after Israel withdrew its troops from Gaza in 2005. It used the Israeli gesture of good will not to start building a functional society and to improve the lives of the Palestinian people, but as a launching pad for a dramatic increase in its firing of rockets into Israel. And so, we witnessed the recent Gaza war, which saw Israel fight back to try to stop Hamas' terror against the Israeli population. The international community, naturally, did what it does best when it comes to Israel: denounce it for trying to defend itself. The liberal-left was especially vocal in its criticism of Israelis trying to express their will to survive, and, once again, leftists were deafeningly silent in the face of Hamas terrorists running around with little babies in their hands, using them as human shields, knowing that Israeli soldiers would refrain from fire. Despite the "cease-fire," Hamas rockets continue till this day to hit Israeli population centers. But this hasn't inspired the Obama administration to come to Israel's defense. Nothing of the kind. To be sure, however, the administration is going to do something vis-à-vis Hamas. And what is that? Will it demand that Hamas stop terrorizing and killing Israelis? Will it demand that Hamas recognize Israel's right to exist and desist from trying to carry out its own version of the Final Solution in the Middle East? Will it demand that Hamas stop teaching Palestinian children that Israel doesn't exist and that Jews are inhuman, descended from apes and pigs? None of the above. So, what is it going to do? Well, it's going to start rebuilding Hamas' killing machine. And it's going to do that by handing Hamas $900 million. We're told not to worry, of course, because, as the apologists having been explaining, the money isn't going to Hamas but to the suffering Palestinian people. And how will it reach the Palestinian people? Through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which will, we are told, act as the go-between and faithfully engage in the art of utopian redistribution. That UNRWA is involved in this transfer of money to a society ruled by Nazis is a sick joke. For anyone that has eyes to see, it has been undeniably clear for a long time that UNRWA is a Hamas subsidiary. As Andy McCarthy has demonstrated, UNRWA gives money to Hamas; it has sponsored schools that teach Hamas' version of Jew-hate; its agency's teachers promote suicide bombings; its schools produce vicious Hamas terrorists; and its entire infrastructure facilitates and serves as a buffer for Hamas terror. In the end, of course, it makes total sense that the Obama administration would be engaged in this kind of gruesome behavior, for this is just another extension of the left's long-practiced ritual of fellow traveling, the expression of sympathy for and adulation of an adversarial monstrosity. In this gesture toward Hamas, the Obama administration is putting into practice the position of its prized guru, ex-President Jimmy Carter, who went out of his way during the Gaza war to support the terror group. In a Washington Post piece entitled "An Unnecessary War," Carter stooped to where he loves spending most of his time: the moral sewer. Engaging in an intellectual perversion that is difficult to match, the worst ex-President criticized Israel's thirst for life as if Article XI in Hamas' Charter doesn't exist and as if the fascist organization is some kind of social welfare agency. Wi th a pathological mind frame almost impossible to define, he referred to "a defensive tunnel" being dug by Hamas. This gives inspiration to a certain question: What "defensive" structure s did Hitler's gas chamber engineers build during their plans to make sure Auschwitz, Dachau, Buchenwald and Treblinka did what they were designed to do?   It would do well to note that Carter had to perfect his totalitarian odyssey by doing what political pilgrims do best: travel to meet and worship the objects of their veneration in person. And so it was meant to be: In April 2008, Carter journeyed to Cairo and Damascus to give his affection to the mass murderers of our time. Part of his itinerary included a face-to-face passionate encounter with Hamas leader Khaled Meshal, the mastermind of several high-profile terror attacks. The June 2006 abduction of Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit was reportedly carried out at Meshal's request. During the meeting, Carter could barely conceal his ecstasy with being in the presence of what he clearly deems to be his secular deity. The totalitarian journey, without doubt, is an addiction leftists simply can't shake. MIT professor Noam Chomsky had set the tone well for Carter's Hamas romance two years earlier – when he traveled to Lebanon in May 2006 to consummate a political love affair that he had begun in the 1990s. Arriving in a southern suburb of Beirut, Chomsky entered the headquarters of Hezbollah and warmly embraced the terror organization's secretary general, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah. It was a thrilling moment for the professor, for finally he could apologize to a Nazi for being a Jew in person. And there Chomsky was, with the distinguished honor of standing in the company of the criminals who had murdered 241 American servicemen at the Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983 and, of course, untold numbers of Israeli citizens over many years – activities Chomsky has justified as "legitimate resistance" against an oppressor. Having praised the terrorist organization throughout the 1990s, Chomsky cou ld now put his complete seal of approval on Hezbollah. And he did: He gave his blessing to Nasrallah, praised his cause and approved his refusal to disarm. Academic Norman Finkelstein is another example of the eerie phenomenon of Jewish leftists venerating those who seek to extinguish them. A Hamas and Hezbollah apologist, Finkelstein has made a career out of minimizing the magnitude of the Holocaust and of denouncing what he calls the Holocaust "industry," which he believes operates an "outright extortion racket." It is the Jews, according to Finkelstein, who are to be blamed for anti-Semitism. It is no great surprise that Finkelstein counts neo-Nazis among his staunchest defenders. Finkelstein has taken his self-loathing show on the road. He regularly visits college campuses across the U.S., usually at the invitation of the Muslim Students Association, where he indulges in his favorite themes and embraces homicidal Palestinians. One of his most passionate themes is praising Hezbollah. He honors the terror group for its "heroic resistance" and its "historic contributions." In January 2008, Finkelstein, like Carter and Chomsky, embarked on his own political pilgrimage, traveling to Lebanon to embrace Hezbollah in person. In this role of fellow traveler, he met with a senior Hezbollah official, Nabil Kaouk, in south Lebanon, in his office in the coastal city of Tyre, and told reporters, "Hezbollah represents hope." He also went on Lebanese television, expressing his "solidarity" with Hezbollah and calling Israel an "invader." Finkelstein's Hezbollah sojourn serves as a haunting mirror image of myriad other leftist romances with despotism. The haunting historical examples go on and on: Naomi Klein calling out in a column in The Nation for Al Maqtada al-Sadr's killing fields to come to New York, Tom Hayden fulfilling the next stage of his totalitarian high by meeting Klein's hero, Al Sadr, in London, and British Member of Parliament George Galloway visiting Syria in November 2005, prostrating himself before its despot, and giving a speech at Damascus University in which he denounced America and Israel and extended his support to every possible enemy of the United States – from the terrorists in Iraq to Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez. And so the Obama administration extending financial help to Hamas is just another continuation of this political horror show. The U.S. is now putting $900 million of taxpayer wealth into the hands of some of the most violent and vicious enemies of America and Israel. Any person with a modicum of conscience knows that there is not one scintilla of justification for it. And so, while U.S. taxpayers suffer under severe economic problems, the left, which now runs the country, is using their money to fertilize Hamas' killing fields. And as history has shown, it's nothing surprising – and definitely nothing new. It's just the next chapter of the left's long and horrid journey into the heart of darkness, destruction and death.
