Payment to police informers triples

In the year 2005/2006, £104,326, was paid to secret agents.
By the end of next month, that figure could rise to over £300,000, which is triple the amount of money paid just four years ago.
Sinn Fein has called on the Chief Constable to give assurances that these informants are not given immunity to carry out criminal activity.
Mark Haddock - one of the most notorious informers - was paid at least £80,000 by his police handlers.
In 2007, a report by the police ombudsman revealed there was evidence linking the former UVF commander with 10 murders.
