Ruth Madoff, wife of the convicted fraudsterBernie Madoff, still holds a personal fortune of some $823m - though $700m of that is attributed to her husband's business, for which there are said to be potential buyers.
Needless to say, she is very keen that none of this falls into the wrong hands, namely the hundreds of impoverished victims of Bernie's giant Ponzi scheme. To this end, she has declared her Palm Beach, Florida home (pictured) as her primary residence - a move that may shield the $9.4 million home from creditors.
In doing so, Ruth, who many believe is implicated in her husband's crimes - though no proof has come to light - is following a route taken by OJ Simpson, who used the same law to protect his own home when he was charged with the murder of his wife Nicole Simpson. (Continued below)
Barbara, a Palm Beach resident, could certainly fill Ruth in on the damage that has been wrought among her rich friends by Madoff. Writing in the Canadian news magazine Macleans, she recently wrote about Robert Jaffe, who was a pivotal social figure in Palm Beach's Jewish social scene, and how he had been forced to sell his tuxedos and jackets to a consignment shop.
