So I said to Gordon Brown, I said...

One of the advantages about being outside the EPP is that you get to speak on important occasions. Today was such an occasion. Gordon Brown was in town in advance of the G20 summit. There were a couple of things I wanted to tell him on behalf of my constituents:

The devalued Prime Minister of a devalued Government

Bravo Mr Hannan.

Thankyou Daniel. Exactly what he needed to be told. It's hard to believe it's taken someone this long to do it.

He has the smirk of the class bully, laughing at the teacher as he is rightfully told off, thinking this whole thing is a joke. The truth is, it is he who is the joke.

For the first and probably the only time I envy you your position as an MEP.You had a wonderful opportunity this afternoon and boy did you grab it with both hands. You are wasted on the continent . Surely some Tory association must snap you up. Come home and speak in England for England.

I hate to argue with you Mr Hannan, but a child born today is liable for £60,000 of Browns debts, not £20,000 he simply refuses to declare two thirds of it.

Did anyone else see the monster laughing?

Daniel, thank you,

yes, thank you. I don't personally know you, but I'm proud of you for standing up and saying what needed to be said.

All in all, from the red faced look on his face, I reckon Brown found your speech a jaw dropping experience.

Jolly well done Mr. Hannan. Now if only Obama would allow himself to be lectured like, since nearly the exact same speech would apply to him as well.

If only Cameron and, (what's his name ahh, George somebody) had the ability to deliver such an excellent brief condemnation of Browns 12 years axis of incompetence.

Well done Daniel Hannan, well done Sir.

Excellent stuff - one of the best things i've heard in a long time. It should be headline news but somehow i doubt if the BBC will bother to report it. Thanks again.

Daniel, that was a faultless performance: thank you so much for saying what any sane person believes. I found it insulting that Brown was actually smirking and laughing as you spoke, but well done for speaking up for us.

It is jolly bad form to hit an ocularly-challenged clapped-out old codger when he is down.

Daniel Hannan should be thoroughly ashamed of himself.

Very well said that man - you spoke for a nation, I know no-one who believes Brown(not even Mervyn King!) - however I suspect it is water off a ducks back to Gordon.

I was impressed by the amount of applause you got -- who was that from??

That was absolutely glorious. I only wish there was another camera to capture Mr. Brown swearing under his breath.

Europarl-pse you should consider increasing the dose of whatever medication you are on. It clearly isn't working.

Wow!

Daniel Hannan! If I was British, and if I was a member of the Tories, I would do everything to make sure that you become the leader of the Conservatives in the House of Commons. What a brilliant speech! Very passionate and at the same time never losing your self-control. This speech proves once more that cool reasoning hurts more than any polemical speech could ever hurt. An excellent speech! And how obvious it was that it really was painful for the Prime Minister to listen.

I hope David Cameron and his front bench colleagues were watching. It might put some starch in their backbone.

Phil - what a pity that Daniel is not the Leader of the Opposition - he is the only one worthy of the name.
