BBC: Darling Says This Government Has Created An Economic Mess

Alistair Darling doesn't think much of this government, according to a report on the BBC News website. In an article on the Tories' response to the G20, the writer insets Darling's name instead of Osborne's. So now Darling is actually quoted as saying "The truth is Britain will be clearing up for the economic mess left by this government long after the G20 show leaves town."

Paul Waugh (have you bookmarked his blog yet? If not you should) has a fascinating insight into the realpolitik behind the scenes at the G20. Apparently it was Obama wot won it. He knocked the Chinese and French heads together to get agreement on the treatment of tax havens and behaved like an old diplomatic pro. Needless to say, Gordon Brown rather oversold the effect of the compromise.
