NYPD secures synagogues against Muslim retaliation should Israeli attack Iran

The New York Police Department has put together a response plan that includes deploying extra officers, including heavily armed Hercules Teams, at synagogues, Jewish community centers and Israel diplomatic offices, out of concern that Muslim extremists might retaliate if Israel should attack Iran's nuclear facilities.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said: More than seven years after 9/11 "we know that counterterrorism is now a permanent part of our mission."

Russia launched first man-made satellite Sputnik-1 from Baikonur

Kazakhstan is negotiating for Israel to launch its communications satellites from Baikonur to help turn this space launching facility into a going international business venture long term.

DEBKAfile's military sources report that Russia, which built the satellite launching station in 1955 for its own use, does not object, because it is constructing a replacement cosmodrome on its own soil and also developing its own military and aviation industrial ties with Israel.

President Barack Obama's assurance that the US is not at war with Islam provided cold comfort in Riyadh and Cairo, where his drastic policy shift of détente with Tehran, first revealed by DEBKA-Net-Weekly last month, is causing jitters.
