BLUNDERING POLICE CHIEF WALKS AWAY WITH £114,000-A-YEAR PENSION

RESIGNED: Quick pay-off

Friday April 10,2009

By Gabriel Milland

BLUNDERING anti-terror chief Bob Quick sparked outrage last night by walking away with his full £114,000-a-year pension.

The shamed former Assistant Metropolitan Police Commissioner, 49, quit yesterday morning, a day after publicly flashing top-secret details of planned raids on alleged Muslim extremists said to be preparing to carry out massive bomb attacks.

Panicking police and MI5 chiefs were forced to bring forward the wave of armed swoops by at least nine hours. Several of the snatches, which saw 12 suspects arrested, were switched to public places, putting by-standers at risk of getting hurt in crossfire.

And the latest example of taxpayers handing over huge pension pay-outs to reward failure prompted fury last night.

Mark Wallace, campaign director of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “These figures show Quick has not fallen on his sword, he’s fallen into a very comfy armchair at the taxpayers’ expense.

“While police officers contribute more than many public sector employees to their own pensions, there is still an extremely heavy subsidy paid by taxpayers, many of whom struggle to afford pensions of their own.

“It is amazing that someone can make such a serious error and simply withdraw into a life of wealthy retirement.”

Like virtually all public servants, Mr Quick’s pension will be index-linked to inflation and is guaranteed by the state.

If he chooses, he could take an annual pension of £85,000 with a £520,000 lump sum.

He earned £172,000 a year. Officers like him who have completed 30 years can retire with a pension of two-thirds their final salary.

Public fury over pension pay-outs has been running high since it emerged that Sir Fred Goodwin, blamed for the collapse of the Royal Bank of Scotland, was handed a £17million pension pot.

John Quigley, a specialist pensions lawyer at London-based solicitors William Sturges, said Mr Quick was “privileged”.

He added: “The worse things get in the private sector, the more people look enviously towards the public sector where they have these very attractive salaries, are still getting pay rises and get these gold-plated pensions.”

Mr Quick was pictured clutching the top-secret documents that revealed details of planned anti-terror raids in Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire as he entered Downing Street to brief Gordon Brown.

A political spat developed yesterday over the timing of Mr Quick’s resignation. Labour accused London’s Tory Mayor Boris Johnson of “grand-standing” by phoning in to BBC radio to announce live on air that Mr Quick had quit. A source close to Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she was irritated by Mr Johnson’s outburst.

Political support for Mr Quick had vanished as soon as news of the photo emerged and both Conservatives and Liberal Democrats said he was right to resign.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling said: “Why on earth is a document like this not locked in a briefcase? You just thought it would be blindingly obvious.”

Along with the police pay-outs, Mr Quick’s family will also get income from the luxury car business his wife ran from their home in the Surrey stockbroker belt.

Mr Quick could earn hundreds of thousands more by hawking around his police experience as a freelance “consultant” in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics.

Mr Quick hit the headlines last year when he authorised the police raid on Tory immigration spokesman Damian Green’s Commons office without a warrant.

He said yesterday: “I deeply regret the disruption caused to colleagues undertaking the operation and remain grateful for the way they adapted quickly and professionally to a revised timescale.”

BLUNDERING POLICE CHIEF WALKS AWAY WITH £114,000-A-YEAR PENSION

Good. If it was down to me the fool that took the picture should have been arrested.

This is a ridiculous situation. We lose a good police officer for a momentary lapse compounded by a photographer who cares more about his own fame than terror attacks.

We retain a Home Secretary that Bob Quick should have arrested for fraud. UK at its usual sad level of sanity.

MARTIAL LAW IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LISBON TREATY !

10.04.09, 6:35pm

Subject: Death penalty re-instated - eg if we riot against the EU?!

On 20th Feb 2008 a caucus meeting was held at the German Parliament in Munich to discuss the Lisbon Treaty. [the European Union reform treaty, a.k.a. the Lisbon Treaty rejected by the voters of Ireland and before that rejected by the voters of France and Netherlands as the EU Constitution]
At this meeting a previously unmentioned paragraph was brought to light by Professor Schachtschneider, Humanities Faculty - University of Nuremberg.

Professor Schachtschneider, explained that the undisclosed paragraph means on ratification of the Lisbon Treaty the DEATH PENALTY will be reintroduced to Europe. The Death Penalty will be applicable for the crimes of RIOTING, CIVIL UPHEAVAL and DURING WAR.

Professor Schachtschneider made the point that this clause is particularly outrageous as it had been cleverly hidden in a footnote of a footnote and would not have been detected by anyone other than an exceptional expert reader.
It is not in the treaty itself, but in a footnote, because with the European Union reform treaty, we accept also the European Union Charter, which says that there is no death penalty, and then it also has a footnote, which says, “except in the case of war, riots, upheaval” !!

When we are not at war, who will define riot and upheaval? Will a riot against membership of the EU now result in execution?
Even if you favour the death penalty the voters of the UK should be given a referendum on this treaty / constitution.

Did New Labour mention this ? ...No... because they claim to have never read the Treaty... fools.

It wouldn't surprise me if the governments plan was to do nothing about the terrorist threat !

I think the Labour Government would like nothing better then to declare Martial Law !

NOT EVERYONE IS A CONDON

10.04.09, 1:47pm

I think that not every man at the top of the Police, HIDES notes of plots as Lord Condon did over Diana's fears of a plot to have her killed
.
Could it be that this was not a 'blunder'?

I think JOno's comment says what many are thinking. Something is not quite right.

The Police has been seen to have had to do many cover-ups of the truth in the Blair the Liar years and perhaps the Police is beginning to say
'ENOUGH IS ENOUGH'?

Let us hope so as Corrupt and Cover-up Britian must end and we must recover our lost reputation aorund the world.

WAS THIS A "BLUNDER" -OR WAS IT A WAY OF PUTTING THIS INFORMATION INTO THE PUBLIC EYE ?

10.04.09, 10:51am

I know that you don't become head of the Anti terror squad by being a complete idiot.. so what is the real story here ?

The information was "leaked " outside Downing Street where there are always plenty of cameras, the note was the only one on display and there was plenty of covers that could have concealed it. Bob Quick would have read the document before and possible have even written it-so no need to read it in the car.

The information was already known about by Downing Street, so what would the purpose be to bring it into the public's knowledge ?
The likelyhood of an attack on the British mainland was the issue and the arrests had to be brought forward due to the leak...what if there had been no leak ?..would the attacks have been allowed to take place first ? The Government seemed to be angry that there was a leak.... and the attack forstalled...

The government seem to be taking an "interesting " stance which I fail to understand, just as they did on 7/7. Much "interesting "information on 7/7/ can be gained by googling "Peter Powers" who is MD of a company Visor Consultants, that was providing a service to HMG in the form of an "Live Exercise" which was a terrorist attack on the very same railway stations and buses by Muslim extremists at exactly the same time as the real events took place, withthe same number of "terrorists" using the same methords ... far too many coincidences to be a coincidence. It looks as if someone with access to the plan in advance , used it as a blueprint.
The look of astonishment on Mr Powers face when he was interviewed on Sky News a few hours after says it all. Therewas another "Exercise" involving the USA airforce on the morning of 9/11...which is why there wasn't any fighters available to shoot down the 5 planes.

So in short, I think that we may all be too quick off the mark to paint this distinguished Police Officer as a fool, he may just be a National Hero and may have saved countless British Lives which our Global Government may have wanted to waste.

Your LIBLABCON government is way out of control...if there really was a terrorist threat- don't you think that they would have targetted members of the government that wages war against them by now ?...as the IRA targetted Airey Neave ?

Frightening isn't it ?
