Egypt's Omar Suleiman cracks a Hizballah (Iranian) network
Neither Cairo nor Tehran is saying out loud that the 49 men, including seven Israeli citizens and one Lebanese citizen, arrested by Egyptian security forces on charges of supporting Hamas and Hezbollah, were the tip of a clandestine Iranian iceberg.
A major Iranian network has been going strong for three years, dug into Egyptian Sinai and the cities along the Suez Canal. It is a major link in Tehran's clandestine chain all the way to Sudan and Eritrea and the key to its arms smuggling route for Hamas.
So why has Cairo fingered Hizballah? And why now?

North Korea restarts nuclear facility at Yongbyon
As North Korea reactivated its nuclear weapons facilities in defiance of UN resolutions, Tuesday, April 14, Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinjad announced plans to send a second satellite into space, this one on a rocket with a range of 1,500 km.
Clearly, both North Korea and Iran are moving ahead on parallel courses with their military nuclear programs, impervious to Western condemnation (of North Korea) or concessions (to Tehran) for the sake of diplomatic engagement.

According to DEBKAfile's military sources, Egyptian security forces are closing in on a secret Iranian-Hizballah headquarters in central Sinai which has been organizing the flow of smuggled arms to Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
As part of the operation, a 500-strong Egyptian force in armored vehicles carried out a surprise raid on Bedouin territory Monday, April 13.

Israel's chief of staff Lt. Gen. Gaby Ashkenazi said the unmanned Palestinian "fishing boat" from the Gaza Strip which exploded 400 meters from the Israeli coast Monday, April 13 was primed with hundreds of kilograms of explosives to attack an Israeli vessel. DEBKAfile's military sources report that it was detonated by remote control from the shore.
