Gingrich: 'Obama endangering Israel'

May. 4, 2009
hilary leila krieger, jpost correspondent in Washington , THE JERUSALEM POST
Former US House speaker Newt Gingrich on Sunday blasted the Obama administration for setting itself on a collision course with Israel and endangering the Jewish state, ahead of his address to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
"They are systematically setting up the most decisive confrontation that we've ever seen," the leading Republican politician told The Jerusalem Post, referring to news reports about the administration's approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
"There's almost an eagerness to take on the Israeli government to make a point with the Arab world," he said, speaking to the Post ahead of his speech before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's annual conference.
He called US President Barack Obama's program of engagement on Iran a "fantasy," and his Middle East policies "very dangerous for Israel." He summed up Obama's approach as "the clearest adoption of weakness since Jimmy Carter."
Instead, he maintained, the US should be sending the message to Israel that "we are for the survival of Israel" and that "we are not going to tolerate Iran getting nuclear weapons."
He added that creating prosperity among Palestinians was important, and that the US should be helping their leaders grow their society and crowd out Hamas.
The Obama administration has also been trying to support the Fatah party as it shuns Hamas, and is looking to restart the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians in part to accomplish that end. The US government has also been focusing on engaging Iran to try to prevent them from obtaining nuclear weapons, holding out the possibility of more economic sanctions should the diplomatic process fail.
Gingrich is touted as a possible Republican candidate in the next presidential campaign and has re-established himself as a top leader in the
Republican party as the GOP struggles to redefine its identity and appeal to voters after electoral losses this fall.
Major Democratic figures, including US Vice President Joe Biden, will be addressing the conference in the coming days.

Survey: Israelis Like America, Distrust Obama
Iyar 10, 5769, 04 May 09 11:13
by Malkah Fleisher

(IsraelNN.com) A recent survey conducted by Bar-Ilan University's BESA Center in conjunction with the Anti-Defamation League reveals Israelis' opinion about the United States relationship to the Jewish State.
The Israeli respondents, 57 percent of whom identified as secular, reported positive feelings toward America (72%), with a preponderance asserting that the United States is a loyal ally of Israel (68%).
The overwhelming majority of those polled trust that the United States would come to the aid of Israel in the event of an existential emergency (76%), with nearly all respondents believing close relations with America is vital to Israel's security (91%).
However, Israeli confidence in the U.S president plummeted from surveys taken in 2007.  While most Israelis considered President George W. Bush's attitude toward Israel to be friendly (73%), President Barack Hussein Obama is considered friendly by only about a third of Israelis (38%).
The younger generation of Israelis is more skeptical about Obama than the older generation, with 41 percent of respondents aged 42 and over believing Obama is capable of making the right decisions regarding the Israeli-PA conflict, as opposed to only 32 percent of respondents under the age of 41.
In regard to whether Obama would maintain friendly relations with Israel, 41 percent of older respondents agreed he would, with only 34 percent of the younger respondents also agreeing.
A whopping 80 percent of opinion holders said that Obama's plan to bring about reconciliation with the Arab world in order to improve the U.S.'s position and reputation would come at Israel's expense.
Younger respondents again displayed conservative sentiments in regard to US-Iran negotiations, with 60 percent opposing the move, as opposed to 42 percent of older respondents.
Israeli opinion holders also overwhelmingly support military action to destroy Iranian nuclear facilities in the event of the failure of economic and diplomatic efforts (81%), even if Obama's administration opposed the action (83%).
A closer look at the different age groups shows that 60% of the younger respondents oppose U.S.-Iran negotiations, compared to only 42% of the older respondents.
The telephone poll, carried out by Maagar Mochot, was conducted in the last week of April, with a margin of error of 4.5 percent.
A recent US Gallup poll showed that American Jews overwhelmingly support President Obama, after 100 days of his presidency.

[These are the same Jews who believed that Arafat was the messiah and Oslo would bring "peace in our time."]

An even higher percentage of American Muslims support the new president as well.

10 ways Obama is a direct threat to Israel

JERUSALEM – The Obama administration is a direct threat to Israel and Middle East regional stability, charges a blockbuster new book released this week.

In "The Late Great State of Israel", author and WND Jerusalem bureau chief Aaron Klein draws urgent attention to the unprecedented, mortal danger that Israel faces.

The subtitle of the book – released yesterday as Israel celebrated its independence – reads, "How enemies within and without threaten the Jewish nation's survival."

In a section of the work, Klein documents more than 10 ways President Obama's policies are likely to cause grave harm to the Jewish state. Prominent among the list are Obama's proposed talks with Iran, his approach toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and his policy toward foes like Syria. Klein shows how these policies and actions may lead to disaster.

Klein also exposes some shocking revelations, such as specific ways the Obama White House is helping to physically divide Jerusalem and exclusive information the U.S. president may open dialogue with the Hamas terrorist organization.

During the recent presidential campaign, Klein broke some of the most important stories about Obama, including the politician's associations with Weatherman terrorist William Ayers and anti-Israel personalities such as PLO supporter Rashid Khalidi. It was during an exclusive interview with Klein that the Hamas terrorist organization infamously endorsed Obama.

Now Klein is back with an emergency message, a clarion call for all supporters of Israel. The great Mideast democracy faces catastrophe, he warns.

"The greatest threat, the one that magnifies all others exponentially, is that only a few in Israel or abroad are aware of the real extent of the dangers facing the Jewish country – both from within and without," writes Klein.

Klein pulls no punches, fingering the Israeli government as often being its own worst enemy. He also shows how policies from the U.S. and international community harm Israel's interests and how Iran, Hamas, Palestinian terrorists and a host of other players are poised to end the Mideast democracy once and for all.

If Israel falls, America will be next in line, argues Klein.

Among the highlights of "The Late Great State of Israel":

  • How the Israeli government has turned a blind eye as Islamic authorities physically erase archaeological evidence on the Temple Mount, including actual Temple artifacts.

  • How Jerusalem ALREADY has been divided.

  • Is Obama poised to legitimize Hamas terrorists? Plus, how Obama's Mideast policies, including talks with Iran and Syria, threaten the Jewish state and, ultimately, America.

  • How Iran is positioning its proxies to wreck havoc on Israel while Tehran inches toward nuclear weapons.

  • How the U.N. fuels a fake "refugee crisis" that directly threatens Israel's existence.

  • How and why Israel failed in its recent 22-day war in Gaza.

  • How the U.S. funds and fuels Mideast terrorism

  • How the news media is covering for terrorists and playing a dangerous lying game about the Mideast and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In doing so, how they are emboldening the enemies of the U.S. and Israel

  • Israel's peace partner exposed; and much more.
"Unless these perils are countered soon," writes Klein, "the only remnant of the Jewish country may soon be an epitaph: 'The Late, Great State of Israel.'"
