IT contractor comments in Telegraph re: MPs' expenses

Steve of Ipswich

Being self employed I couldn't agree more with what Mr Fiedman says. In fact as an IT engineer I too have a special tax code. It's called IR35.

What it really means is that if I come under its umbrella then I pay more tax than a permanent employee sitting next to me earning the same amount.

Gordon obviously thinks this is fair. Especially as the IR35 victim has less security and social benefits and has to frequently scout for work.

These are the people who were told by Dawn Primarolo that they "earned too much anyway" despite earning less than half of what she earned before expenses. Of course if my contract falls outside IR35 then I get hit with S660 to limit any dividend. Who the hell did the hours to gain the certification and then put in the hours to earn the money in the first place? It certainly wasn't any damned leech of an MP!

In my first year of trading I made an error. It was an honest mistake borne of being new to running my own affairs. It cost me a hefty fine. No option to write out a belated cheque to cover the error. Nope, I got it wrong and the revenue held out its hand. Failure to comply would have seen me prosecuted. The fine was also far in excess of the error.

So when I see the likes of Blears waving cheques for thousands of pounds (nice if you can just lay your hands on 13000 overnight) I'm not impressed nor mollified.

I'm even more angry that the irritating little woman has the gall to think she can buy off the tax man and the electorate and walk away from what looks incredibly like tax evasion. How arrogant! What is even more galling is that it looks as if she and all the other men and women who have pulled the same stunt are going to get away with it.

Then they still have a year of ripping us off for their salary and then a hefty settlement at the end of it if they are deselected/step down. How sickening is that? All the main parties are guilty of that. Stop treating these people with dignity that they don't deserve.

I know they are trying to avoid by-elections. Well tough. Sack the fraudsters with immediate effect and call a general election at the end of the summer. MPs do nothing all summer so there is no need for by-elections to take place and less need to pay deselected MPs a penny more. The parties have time to select new MPs and the public are not ripped off for a single penny more by grafters like Blears, Kirkbride, McKay and Moran.

I've just see Clegg on TV waffling about morality. This is the spineless toad that threw the Lisbon Treaty referendum vote to protect his EU pension. Why is he or any other ex-EU clone sitting in the house? vested self interests make them unsuitable for domestic politics.
