The DT has had to apologise to the Cheltenham MP.

Glad to see some `fight-back' against all the filth from the Telegraph. In this particular case I see Andrew Porter the political editor and close friend of the digusting and disgraced Damian McBride was involved. Watch Howard demolish him publicly and cheer!

And to cheer everyone up the BBC has published its poll on MPs
+++++++++++++++++
How many MPs do you think are corrupt?

ALL - 7% Most - 17% About half - 24% A few - 46% None - 4% Don't know - 2% +++++++++++++++++[nb (i've read the figures from a chart so there might be a tiny error but in no case more than 1% )

So there's about 3/4 of the population think the Hoo-Ha exaggerated and half who think it monstrously exaggerated.

And I see that "Plaid Cymru and Scottish National party to use allotted time in parliament to force a dissolution debate on Wednesday" . I should hope the Tories would back it! Christina

BBC2 `Daily Politics' at 1215 2.6.09 Howard: The Telegraph reporter put on my story yesterday lied

• Michael Howard, former Conservative leader

Mr Howard said that the Telegraph reporter put on the story about him yesterday lied, and added that every penny that he had claimed for was accounted for.

"Every penny that I paid to my local association was to compensate for the services they provide me as a Member of Parliament. Every penny is properly accounted for."

He denied that his claims amounted to public funding of political parties and added, "I have not had a single email or a single phone call about your story today. Yesterday I had one abusive email. My association office has had about 20 calls directly supporting me".

He went on to say to Andrew Porter, the Telegraph Political Editor, "the reporter put on my story yesterday lied". He added that the reporter had falsely said she got a phone number from a friend and said, "she admitted to me that she lied to him".

CONSERVATIVE HOME 2.6.09 Michael Howard gives the Telegraph's Andrew Porter the Paxman treatment [WATCH THIS! -cs]

Jeremy Paxman infamously asked Michael Howard the same question 14 times on Newsnight back in 1997. Well, this morning it was Michael Howard, a former barrister, who was the one repeatedly asking the same question when he came face to face with the Daily Telegraph's Andrew Porter on the BBC2 Daily Politics sofa. You can watch the encounter here, in which the former Tory leader asks the paper's political editor to say whether or not he had acted improperly in paying money to his Conservative association for office space to allow him to carry out palrliamentary duties in his constituency.
