Perfidy and Despotism in Israel:

But the Universe is unfolding as it should*

Prof. Paul Eidelberg

Last week, at Bar-Ilan University , Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bowed to the “two-state” formula.  By so doing he renounced Israel ’s sovereignty over Judea and Samaria , the heartland of the Jewish People.  Who gave him the authority to do this?  Who gave him the authority to nullify the word of the Almighty?  No wonder he failed to say at this religious university that God gave Eretz Israel to the Jewish people as recorded in our holy Torah

Instead, and in response to Barack Obama speech in Cairo, Netanyahu countered: “There are those who say that without the Holocaust the State [of Israel] would not have been established, but I say,” he continued, “The right to establish our sovereign state here, in the Land of Israel, arises from one simple fact: Eretz Israel is the birthplace of the Jewish People.”

This statement―which echoes the first sentence of Israel’s Declaration of Independence―is false!  It suggests that the Jews did not become a “people” until the conquest of the land of Canaan by Joshua, hence, only after the Law-Giving at Mount Sinai .  Yet the Children of Israel are repeatedly referred to as a people even before their exodus from Egypt , as well as during their wanderings in the Wilderness.  In fact, they are also called a “nation.”  Thus:  “What great nation has laws … so righteous as this Torah?” (Deut. 4:8.)

Netanyahu was applauded at Bar-Ilan for saying Eretz Israel was the birthplace of the Jewish people.  What abysmal ignorance!  No wonder he didn’t remind his benighted audience that Jewish possession of Eretz Israel is based on an eternal covenant between God and the people of Israel .  Yet he dared violate that covenant at a religious university!

No wonder he said nothing about a Palestinian state during the February election campaign.  No wonder he trashed his party’s constitution, and thus became Kadima’s surrogate prime minister―yes, just as Sharon became Labor’s surrogate prime minister in December 2003 when he adopted Labor’s policy of unilateral disengagement―a policy rejected by some 75 percent of the Jews who voted in the January election of that year.

Perfidy and even treason have become normative in the pseudo-Jewish State of Israel.  That’s right: Israeli politicians have committed acts prohibited under the treason law:

  acts which "impair the sovereignty" of  the  State of Israel―Section 97(a);

 acts which "impair the integrity" of the  State of Israel―Section 97(b);

 acts under Section 99 which give assistance to an "enemy" in war against Israel, which the Law specifically states includes a terrorist organization;

acts in Section 100 which evince an intention or resolve to commit one of the acts prohibited by Sections 97 and 99.

A law suit charging Netanyahu for violating at least Section 100 of the treason law would be ignored by the Supreme Court, which has already fraudulently ruled that Judea and Samaria , like Gaza , constitute “belligerent occupied territory.”

Know well that this ruling has been utterly refuted by Howard Grief’s monumental work, The Legal Foundation and Borders of Israel Under International Law.  This erudite book is a indictment of the politicians and judges that have betrayed the Jewish people.

During the last twenty years I have written many articles showing how and why Israel ’s Government is the greatest enemy of the Jewish people.  One of these articles is entitled “Must the State of Israel Perish for Israel to Survive?”  I say the “State”―meaning the state’s undemocratic institutions―must perish for Israel to fulfill its God-given mission.

This is why I wrote The Myth of Israeli Democracy, a book that demonstrates on both logical and empirical grounds that Israel is not a genuine democracy.  On the one hand, Israel ’s prime ministerial form of government is a soft form of prime ministerial dictatorship.  That’s why no prime minister of Israel has ever been removed from office by a Knesset vote of no-confidence.

On the other hand, the Supreme Court is erasing Israel ’s heritage.  Animated by the dictum “everything is justiciable,” the Court repeatedly violates basic ideas and values of the Jewish people―as readily as Israeli politicians violate the law of treason.

The rule of law does not exist in Israel .  I do not exaggerate. In an interview published in Ha'aretz on June 5, 2003 , Speaker of the Knesset Ruby Rivlin said, “we have in Israel a gang of the rule of law," and he clearly indicated the leaders of this gang: then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Supreme Court President Aharon Barak.

I apologize for repeatedly exposing this rotten state of affairs.  I do so because hardly anyone zeroes in on Israel ’s institutionally protected treachery, which mocks our holy Torah and disempowers our people.  Alas, precious few political commentators―academics and journalists―go beyond policy analysis.  The “best and the brightest” speak of policy flaws, not of regime flaws.  Hardly any dares say Israel is not a genuine democracy.  We know why: the mantra of democracy endows Israel ruling elites with legitimacy and respectability.

But we all know that democracy stands or falls on the principle of accountability.  I ask: to whom are members of the Knesset accountable?  Not to the voters, for there are no constituency elections is Israel .  This is exactly what enabled 23 Likud MKs to vote for unilateral disengagement from Gaza .

To whom is the Prime Minister accountable?  To no one, unless it is the President of the United States : today, a man who betrayed the religion of his father, a man whose guru is an infidel, a hater of America and of Jews.

To whom is the Supreme Court accountable?  To the small minority that Aharon Barak called the Israel’s “enlightened population”―half-educated, left-wing multiculturalists steeped in relativism―benighted Jews with no past and no future.

Benjamin Netanyahu has nothing but contempt for these Jews, but he sold his soul to them at Bar-Ilan University .  Alas, so much wasted talent, without any plan for Israel ’s future except the expulsion of 300,000 Jews about which he is silent.  Not a constructive Jewish word in his speech―only a rhetorical smokescreen for further retreat and betrayal, heedless of what this betrayal portends.

We saw what happened to Yitzhak Rabin as a result of Oslo .  We saw what happened to Ariel Sharon after Gaza .  We have seen the death and destruction that followed.  But do we see the desecration of God’s Name that preceded these tragedies?

Now let me pause and tell you of an interesting response to my last week’s report, which criticized Netanyahu’s Bar-Ilan University speech.  I sent the report to a former colleague of mine in the United States , an eminent political scientist.  This is what he said:

Netanyahu is too clever even for his own good. He hopes to get credit (with the United States ) for compromising on [the] "two state" [formula], while the blame for the (inevitable) rejection of his overture will be on the Arabs. Terrific―except as you suggest, he has legitimated the crucial Arab claim and undermined the crucial Jewish one. I`d like to see it turn out as he apparently hopes―no Palestinian state and it’s the Arabs’ fault, but I`m afraid that the legitimization entailed will trump everything else.

Another reader said:

[Netanyahu’s] sin was Aaron's sin. Instead of coming out against the building of the Golden Calf, he decided to be clever.  He gave the impression that building the calf was acceptable.  He thought he could delay until Moses returned and then the issues would be clear to all; but before he knew it, the calf was there and the people were worshipping it.  It’s the same mistake all the rightwing politicians made starting with [Yitzhak] Shamir at [the] Madrid [conference].  The Egel [the golden calf] and Oslo have the same gematria [or numerical value].

Of course, Israel does not have a Moses in the wings.  Nevertheless, I am reluctant to end on a dismal note, despite my forebodings.  So let me paraphrase a pithy but profound response to the present world’s seemingly hopeless state of affairs, when terrorists may obtain weapons of mass destruction.  Ponder this: “Whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt this universe, created by God, is unfolding as it should.”  [See below for full essay.]I can only add, be strong, be of good courage, and keep the faith.

DESIDERATA

GO PLACIDLY AMID THE NOISE & HASTE, &

REMEMBER WHAT PEACE THERE MAY BE IN SILENCE.

AS FAR AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth

quietly & clearly; and listen to others, even the dull & ignorant;

they too have their story. Avoid loud & aggressive persons,

they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with

others, you may become vain & bitter; for always there will be

greater & lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements

as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career,

however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes

of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world

is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there

is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full

of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection.

Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity & disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly the

counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are

born of fatigue & loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be

gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees & the stars; you have a right to be here. And

whether on not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is un-

folding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors &

aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your

soul. With all its sham, drudgery & broken dreams, it is

still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
