NSA has ability to collect, read domestic e-mails of Americans on widespread basis
The National Security Agency is facing renewed scrutiny over the extent of its domestic surveillance program, with critics in Congress saying its recent intercepts of the private telephone calls and e-mail messages of Americans are broader than previously acknowledged, current and former officials said. The agency’s monitoring of domestic e-mail messages, in particular, has posed longstanding legal and logistical difficulties, the officials said. ............................. read more

North Korea may fire a missile toward Hawaii
North Korea may fire a long-range ballistic missile toward Hawaii in early July, a Japanese news report said Thursday, as Russia and China urged the regime to return to international disarmament talks on its rogue nuclear program. The missile, believed to be a Taepodong-2 with a range of up to 4,000 miles (6,500 kilometers), would be launched from North Korea's Dongchang-ni site on the northwestern coast, said the Yomiuri daily, Japan's top-selling newspaper. It cited an analysis by the Japanese Defense Ministry and intelligence gathered by U.S. reconnaissance satellites. The missile launch could come between July 4 and 8, the paper said.. ............................. read more

Salah claimed that the government continued constantly to dig tunnels under the Temple Mount and the al-Aqsa Mosque, and that Netanyahu was planning to complete during his current term what he did not complete during his first one – "to dig additional tunnels under al-Aqsa and rebuild the Temple on the Temple Mount.".......

Jihadists rebuild and eye Israel
The reported return of a veteran Palestinian bomb maker to his old stomping grounds in the port city of Tripoli in north Lebanon is ringing alarm bells because there are fears that he will link up with a jihadist group that is reforming after being battered by the Lebanese army two years ago. Lebanese authorities haven't been able to confirm that Umari is back in Tripoli, but the report of his return was unsettling because of signs that jihadists linked to al-Qaida are reforming after a series of setbacks in Lebanon. The big concern is that al-Qaida may switch the center of its regional operations from Iraq to the Levant, with Israel the main target.......................... read more

The action takes place in the Middle East, where you can attack villages and kill the inhabitants with impunity. But don't bother looking for it in the shops: to play this deadly game, you'll have to travel to Creech Air Force base in the Nevada desert. That's because the planes are real, and so are the casualties.. ................. read more

Are You Being Watched?
At first glance, there was nothing special about the blimp floating high above the cars and crowd at this year's Indy 500 on Memorial Day weekend. Like most airships, it acted as an advertising vehicle; this time for the Fisher House, a charity focused on helping injured veterans and their families. But the real promo should have been for the blimp's creator, Raytheon, the security company best known for its weapons systems. Hidden inside the 55-foot-long white balloon was a powerful surveillance camera adapted from the technology Raytheon provides the U.S. military. Essentially an unmanned drone, the blimp transmitted detailed images to the race's security officers and to Indiana police. "The airship is great because it doesn't have that Big Brother feel, or create feelings of invasiveness," says Lee Silvestre, vice president of mission innovation in Raytheon's Integrated Defense division. "But it's still a really powerful security tool.". ................. read more

Is Your Cell Phone Spying On You?
Don't talk: your cell phone may be eavesdropping. Thanks to recent developments in "spy phone" software, a do-it-yourself spook can now wirelessly transfer a wiretapping program to any mobile phone. The programs are inexpensive, and the transfer requires no special skill. The would-be spy needs to get his hands on your phone to press keys authorizing the download, but it takes just a few minutes—about the time needed to download a ringtone. This new generation of -user-friendly spy-phone software has become widely available in the last year—and it confers stunning powers. The latest programs can silently turn on handset microphones even when no call is being made, allowing a spy to listen to voices in a room halfway around the world. Targets are none the wiser: neither call logs nor phone bills show records of the secretly transmitted data. ................. read more

Why are 2 out of 3 young people leaving the church?
What does the age of the Earth have to do with the exodus of young people from American churches? Ken Ham, known for his Answers in Genesis creation-science ministry, says a major study he commissioned by a respected researcher unveils for the first time in a scientific fashion the startling reasons behind statistics that show two-thirds of young people in evangelical churches will leave when they move into their 20s. The study, highlighted in Ham's new book with researcher Britt Beemer, "Already Gone: Why your kids will quit church and what you can do to stop it," finds church youth already are "lost" in their hearts and minds in elementary, middle and high school – not in college as many assume. . ................. read more

Christian Book Publishers Choose War of Words Over Israel
On the eve of the secret Oslo talks, as the fateful 1990s began, Israel enjoyed a sunny relationship with American evangelicals. This support coincided with dramatic breakthroughs in the Christian book publishing world, an industry that was overwhelmingly pro-Israel in those days. Books by such publishers as New Leaf Publishing Group and Harvest House advanced the platforms of several pro-Israel authors. The Christian book industry has also, in the last two decades, enjoyed unprecedented success, even reaching new markets. Tyndale's "Left Behind" series, from prophecy teacher Tim LaHaye and writer Jerry Jenkins, even made the secular world sit up and take notice. And while pro-Israel support is still strong, cracks are appearing. The evangelical left has made inroads into conservative circles, advocating for Palestinian positions in the Arab-Israeli conflict. Books and blogs by folks like Brian McLaren and Tony Campolo have opened up attack lines on Israel and her Christian supporters: Bible prophecy enthusiasts and Christian Zionists. ..................... read more

However, traditionalists have criticised the unorthodox services as "pointless" and "shallow", and have warned that experimenting with Church tradition would do more harm than good.. ..................... read more

A 'time bomb' for world wheat crop - 80% of the world's crop at risk
The spores arrived from Kenya on dried, infected leaves ensconced in layers of envelopes. Working inside a bio-secure greenhouse outfitted with motion detectors and surveillance cameras, government scientists at the Cereal Disease Laboratory in St. Paul, Minn., suspended the fungal spores in a light mineral oil and sprayed them onto thousands of healthy wheat plants. After two weeks, the stalks were covered with deadly reddish blisters characteristic of the scourge known as Ug99. Nearly all the plants were goners.Crop scientists fear the Ug99 fungus could wipe out more than 80% of worldwide wheat crops as it spreads from eastern Africa. It has already jumped the Red Sea and traveled as far as Iran. Experts say it is poised to enter the breadbasket of northern India and Pakistan, and the wind will inevitably carry it to Russia, China and even North America -- if it doesn't hitch a ride with people first........................... read more
