TaxPayers' Alliance Bulletin - 12th June 2009

Take to the streets

It goes without saying (though I'll say it anyway) that the last few weeks have been a particularly hectic time for the TPA, what with the European elections and the MPs' expenses scandal on top of our normal campaigning activity. However, with the summer and (hopefully) good weather breaking through, now is the time for us to step up the campaign around the country to take the message to people directly.

So far this year, with your help we've already distributed well over 65,000 leaflets and tens of thousands of our Stop the EU Rip Off car stickers. However, there are still plenty more people to reach, and with public anger over the way some Parliamentarians have stuck their snouts in the trough and higher than usual awareness of the lumbering, costly incompetence of the EU, now is the time to do it!

Whether you are in a position to deliver thousands of leaflets or just a couple of dozen on your street, whether you want one window sticker for your car or you run a company with a hundred vans, we can send you campaign materials free of charge on request. As you can see illustrated here, there are a range of leaflets available - Sick of being overtaxed?, Money down the EU drain and Stop the EU Rip-Off - as well as the Stop the EU Rip-Off car sticker.

To request supplies of any of these leaflets or the stickers, please respond to this email detailing what design you would like, how many and what postal address to send them to.

Exposed: the Councillors' Allowances they tried to keep secret

Yesterday, the Local Government Association published the summary findings of their survey of the allowances and salaries paid to councillors across England. The top finding - another above inflation rise - was shocking enough, but more outrageously they refused to publish the full details of what is paid to councillors at each different council. Apparently they decided that the truth was so embarassing that it was best for councillors if they simply kept the information secret. Happily, we have obtained a leaked copy of the full data, which we have published online here. Follow the link and open the spreadsheet to find out the full detail of what the different levels of councillor at your local authority are being paid.

Yorkshire Action Day

Tomorrow we’ll be out in Beverley, Yorkshire, campaigning and handing out TPA leaflets to recruit new supporters to the campaign.  If you would like to set up an action day in your area, please contact Tim Aker tim.aker@taxpayersalliance.com.

TPA speakers on tour

Another area where we've been very active recently is in sending TPA speakers to meetings and dinners around the country. In the last couple of weeks alone we've spoken at events in Birmingham, Peterborough and Orpington, and in the next few days we'll have speakers in Batley, Yorkshire, and Wandsworth. If you'd like a TPA speaker to come to a dinner, meeting or club that you're involved in please email mark.wallace@taxpayersalliance.com
