This is really rich! They should let the Irish make up their own mind!     It is also total rubbish!

Leinen is described as being “senior”.  That means - under the iniquitous ‘list’ electoral system that he is a party favourite and no matter how the electorate vote he’ll always be there getting more and more senior until that turns to ‘senile’.

Senior MEP issues warning to Irish over Lisbon referendum

Leading Socialist deputy Jo Leinen has warned that Ireland risks being relegated to a "second class" nation if it again rejects the stalled Lisbon treaty.

He accepts that the outcome of the second Irish referendum, expected in early October, is not "a given".

But Leinen, one of parliament's leading pro-Europeans [they mean “pro EU” busily wrecking Europe -cs] , said the Irish must vote 'Yes' if they wish to continue to benefit from the "protective umbrella" the EU provides.  [What protective umbrella?  The EU has done absolutely nothing to help Ireland in its financial meltdown.  It was (mistakenly) joining the euro which caused a massive boom followed by a catastrophic bust.  Ireland having had no help from the EU now has the worst economy in the world -cs]

He said, "If there is a 'No' vote in Ireland I think we are likely to see a two-speed Europe emerge, with Ireland being in what might be called the 'second class'.   [A group of countries associated with the EU but not in it is a goal to be aimed for - not shunned -cs]

"Those in 'first class' will forge ahead in policy areas such as foreign affairs, justice and energy  [Who needs the EU meddling in them? -cs] while the Irish will fall back." [= ‘will be liberated’ -cs]

Leinen, a constitutional expert, went on, "My message to the Irish is to mobilise an effective campaign, one which I would hope will be more successful than the last one.

"They have to ask themselves if they want to be isolated from the rest of the EU or to be integrated into the EU."  [They have to ask themselves if they want Ireland to remain an independent country - free from Brussels -cs]
