Dear Editor:

“Peace Now,” “J Street, ” “Jewish Alliance for Justice,” and other so called peace entities, have declared simplistically that if Israel returns to 1967 borders, peace will ensue.

They do not refer to past or present facts.  They are oblivious to the fact that Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza triggered a power struggle in which Hamas took control of Gaza and fired thousands of missiles into Israel.  Have they weighed the probability of Hamas filling the vacuum of an Israeli divestiture of the West Bank, with Hamas missiles flying into Tel Aviv?

The present and past facts and actions of the Palestinians should be examined very carefully before any further withdrawals are attempted.  Listed below are factual reasons why the “peace” groups conclusions do not harmonize with the facts.

  1. Arabs have attacked Israel from the day of her birth and have continued until today.
  2. Arab peace overtures always contain refugee “right of return” language which Israel cannot accept.
  3. The Arab mindset that Israel should not exist has been formalized by the 1964 PLO charter and the 1964 Fatah Constitution.  These formal documents declare that the establishment of Israel is illegal and void.  These documents also contain many other articles which clearly state that Israel should not exist in “our” Arab land.  These documents exist today with no modifications.
There was one alleged attempt to modify the 1964 PLO Charter.  The facts are as follows:
Arafat sent a letter to then President Clinton in January 1998 in which he alleged that the PLO Charter was modified.  The Palestinian National Council (PNC) voted in December 1998 to accept the content of the Arafat letter which contained language that annulled and modified specific articles of the Charter.  The PNC never directly voted to modify the PLO Charter.  During the eleven years since the PNC vote, there has never been a publication of charter nullification or a modification.  The reader can make his own determination with respect to whether or not the PNC vote to accept the content of Arafat’s letter and the failure to publish the alleged changes for the last eleven years constitutes an annulment or a modification of the PLO Charter.
No annulment of the Fatah constitution has ever been announced.
  1. The Arab Media has continuously berated Israel and Jews before and after 1967.Friday Iman sermons before and after 1967 are indistinguishable in their hatred of Israel and Jews.
  2. Textbooks before and after 1967 spew the same hatred.
  3. A majority of Palestinians voted for Hamas in the last election when the Hamas platform contained a major plank calling for Israel’s destruction.  There is no indication that Hamas popularity has changed.  The 1984 Hamas constitution calls for the destruction of Israel.

The facts above and many more facts too numerous to mention in this letter, should lead a reasonably objective person to conclude that these well-meaning “peace” groups intentions are merely empty hopes without substance.

Respectfully submitted,
