Rhode Island to Shut Down State Government for 12 Days

'Rhode Island will shut down its state government for 12 days and trim millions of dollars in funding for local governments under a plan Gov. Don Carcieri proposed Monday to balance a budget hammered by surging unemployment and plummeting tax revenue. The shutdown would force 81% of the roughly 13,550-member state work force, excluding its college system, to stay home a dozen days without pay before the start of the new fiscal year in July.'

Half of GPs Refuse Swine Flu Vaccine Over Testing Fears

'Up to half of family doctors do not want to be vaccinated against swine flu. GPs will be first in the line for the jabs when they become available but many will decline, even though they will be offering the vaccine to their patients. More than two thirds of those who will turn the jab down believe it has not been tested enough.

Most also believe the flu has turned out to be so mild in the vast majority of cases that the vaccine is not needed.'
