The UK government plans to rush through measures allowing people with suspected mental health issues to be quickly detained because of fears over staff shortages in any forthcoming swine flu outbreak, it has been revealed. The changes to the Mental Health Act, as laid out in an unusually short consultation lasting just one month, would mean it would only take one doctor, rather than two, to have a person sectioned and put on medication without their consent. The measures could have a serious effect on the thousands of patients who currently live outside state care, meaning many could be detained against their will on the word of just one health professional. Is it right that swine flu should affect health regulations? The vaccine includes an additive that could be linked to autism
BRITAIN’S swine flu vaccine contains an additive dropped from children’s jabs five years ago over fears it is linked to autism. The vaccine contains the mercury-based compound Thimerosal, which has not been used in childhood vaccines since 2004. It was removed from jabs in America 10 years ago after issues were raised by the US Public Health Service. 3. Taking Antidepressants Causes Birth Defects In Babies
Taking commonly used antidepressants while pregnant can increase the chance of the child suffering a heart defect up to fourfold, a new study shows. Babies were around 80 per cent more likely to be born with a problem in their septum, the wall dividing the left and right sides of the heart, if their mother took the medication in the first three months of her pregnancy. Taking two or more different kinds of the drugs in the first trimester was linked to a fourfold increase.

4. UK Disability Living Allowance Under Threat - Sign The Government Petition
Time is running out to have your say about disability living allowance (DLA) and attendance allowance (AA) being axed. A government green paper has revealed plans to stop paying disability benefits and hand the cash over to social services instead. The consultation period for the green paper ends on 13 November. If there has been no significant outcry against the plans by then, it seems very likely that whichever party is in power after the next election will seize this opportunity to cut public spending by over a billion pounds a year. Although the actual changes may take years to be brought in, it is what happens between now and November 13th that is likely to seal the fate of attendance allowance (AA) and disability living allowance (DLA).
