TEHRAN, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) --
Khamenei made the remarks in the meeting with visiting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
The Islamic Republic of Iran and Venezuela should upgrade the current level of cooperation to bolster the newly-established "Independence Front," he was quoted as saying.
Earlier, during the talks with Chavez, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad referred to the anti-Imperialism front of which both Iran and Venezuela are members.
Iran and Venezuela have the important mission of helping the poor and revolutionary nations and expanding the anti-Imperialism front, state TV quoted Ahmadinejad as saying on Sunday.
However, the "Independence Front" that Khamenei referred to in the meeting has not been officially announced before.
"The situation in Latin America has changed and the region once regarded as the U.S. backyard is now witnessing emergence of new power," IRNA quoted Khamenei as saying.
For his part, the Venezuelan president expressed happiness with his meeting with Iran's supreme leader and called his recent talks with Iranian president as "very fruitful," the report said.
Iran's state TV announced Sunday that the country has expanded its participation in Venezuela's economic projects.
Chavez is on his seventh official visit to Iran and has met Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Saturday.
He has visited Libya, Algeria and Syria and is scheduled to go to Belarus, Russia, Turkmenistan and Spain after leaving Iran on Sunday.
