According to an unconfirmed report in the French Le Canard Enchaine of Wednesday, Oct. 14, Israel is preparing to bomb Iranian nuclear sites and pro-Iranian targets across the Middle East after December 2009. The prestigious satirical weekly reports that the IDF has notified special forces reservists abroad to get ready to return home in November for immediate drafting.

A former Israeli deputy defense minister, Efraim Sneh, commented to US and British media several times in the past week that if the US fails to rally fellow powers' support for tougher sanctions against Iran by Christmas, Israel will attack.

Taliban hit three security sites in Lahore

Taliban suicide gunmen attacked three law enforcement facilities in Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore early Thursday, Oct. 15, their fifth major strike in 10 days. At least 38 were killed. A red alert was declared across the nation. Interior minister Rehman Malik said: "The enemy has started a guerilla war."

Taliban also struck northeast toward the Kamra nuclear center, aiming to cut it off from Islamabad.

Turkey's Today's Zaman Wednesday, Oct. 14, provided a new motive for Ankara's last-minute decision to cancel Israeli participation in the annual multiple air maneuver with NATO under the caption: Delay in delivery of Herons behind drill crisis, not politics. A senior Turkish military source was quoted as saying: "Israel has failed yet again to deliver the Israeli-made surveillance drones known as Herons to Turkey."
