USA Health Care Workers Demonstrate Against Swine Flu Vaccines

Demonstrators in Hauppauge protest the swine-flu
vaccination order for health care workers

Health care providers from throughout Long Island gathered on the lawn of Suffolk County’s Health Department Saturday in a second day of protests against the state’s mandatory flu-vaccination order. Certain health care personnel -- those in hospitals and a few other venues -- must undergo vaccination for seasonal and swine flu or risk losing their jobs. Many protesters said they’re angry over what they feel is a violation of their civil rights and a loss of the right to choose. Frank Mannino, a registered nurse at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in St. Charles, carried a poster of a giant lab rat to imply the role he believes is being forced on health care workers.
“I have never taken a flu shot,”Mannino said, “and I’m not going to start now.” Demonstrators insisted the swine flu vaccine is unsafe.

UK Doctors And Nurses Shun Swine Flu Vaccines

The Department of Health has ordered NHS bosses across England to ensure that frontline staff get immunised against swine flu amid growing signs that many doctors and nurses intend to shun the vaccine. One medical director at another hospital added:
"The word on the street in NHS staff circles is that the vaccine is no good and you shouldn't bother with it. Nurses in particular worry that there may be side-effects, that corners have been cut in producing the vaccine and that the generally mild nature of the virus means they don't need to take it. As few as 10%-15% of doctors may have it."

USA Teen Fights For Life After HPV Vaccine

A group effort of Amy Pingel, Amy's sister
Charity Savage and physical therapist Lisa Slavin
work to get Zeda Pingel, 14, out of bed to continue
a therapy session

Zeda Pingel was a bright, popular and healthy teenage girl until her pediatrician administered a vaccine last November during a routine checkup. Today, the 14-year-old Lake Station girl is imprisoned in a body that has suffered a series of life-threatening reactions to the vaccine called Gardasil. Zeda spends every day in a hospital bed in the family's living room, surrounded by medical equipment, get-well cards and a crucifix on the wall. "We didn't think she would make it," her mother said. In Zeda's name, make sure you do your homework before you decide.

Virus Tied To Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Researchers have found a virus that might be at the root of chronic fatigue syndrome. According to a new study in the journal Science Express, two-thirds of a group suffering from Chronic Fatigue were infected with the retro virus called XMRV. More than a million Americans suffer from the disease, which can leave them exhausted even after a good night's sleep, cause debilitating pain in muscles and joints, and make concentrating difficult. Renee Montagne talks with Dr. Daniel Peterson, one of the first to recognize chronic fatigue syndrome.

CFS/ME in the Catalan Parliament, Again!

This last week (Oct 8, 2009) we went to the Catalan Parliament to put in evidence the fact that they are not putting in place the Resolution 203/VIII voted on May 21, 2008, which was supposed to assure proper medical services to CFS/ME and FMS patients in Catalonia. A 20 page analysis, on our part, shows that they are being taught that CFS/ME and FMS are of psychological etiology and that they recommend antidepressents and medications which are banned in Europe for these illnesses (such as Pfizer's Lyrica).

Stop The USA Health Care Monster Before It's Too Late

The truth is that the health-care “reform” plan that Congress plans to push through and approve in the very near future, will result in less compassion, not more. It will result in more sickness, not less. It will result in more misery and less health-care freedom. And it will result in less justice, with more people in the gutters, or worse, graves. In fact, this bill, H.R.3200, is the biggest threat to your health freedom and your health in years! And you had better act now before it is too late to stop this compassionless monstrosity from becoming law and changing your life forever.

Ed Silverman Launches Modest Pharmalot Revival

Ed Silverman, veteran pharma reporter
Welcome back. After closing down early this year, Pharmalot is living and breathing again. And along with its return comes a renewed opportunity to discuss and explore issues of importance and concern to those who are somehow immersed in the world of pharmaceuticals. For those wondering how this modest little revival is possible, given that I had run Pharmalot as an employee of The Star-Ledger of New Jersey, I should mention the site is now independently owned and operated – by me. Through the largesse of Jim Willse, the Ledger’s soon-to-retire editor, I was able to obtain the rights to the blog. And thanks to the largesse of Roger Longman, who oversees EBI’s coverage of the pharma world, I have an opportunity to engage you all once again. And no, there is no corporate backing or a group of silent partners lurking nearby. It’s just me.

Orwellian Britain Set To Install Smart Meters To Monitor Behaviour

Smart meters could become a 'spy in the home' by allowing social workers and health authorities to monitor households, adding to concern at Britain's surveillance society. The devices, which the government plans to install in every home by 2020, will also tell energy firms what sort of appliances are being used, allowing companies to target customers who do not reduce their energy consumption. Guy Herbert, general secretary of NO2ID, said:
"This document is a prime example of government efforts to shoehorn data sharing and feature creep into every new policy. For example, it suggests that NHS or social services could use the system to monitor 'vulnerable householders', or that companies could use the system to spam customers with adverts for their services – having paid the government for the privilege, no doubt."

Authorised Users Greatest Threat to Database Security

In their quest to protect sensitive information from outside attackers, many organizations overlook the most imminent threat to their databases: authorized users. Unfettered access to data is another common problem. In many cases, employees are given access to more information than they need to do their jobs.
"It sometimes amazes me how little concern companies have for their production data," says James Koopmann, owner of database consulting firm Pine Horse. "They allow nearly anyone to plug in shareware, freeware, and demo tools to access sensitive production data without any concern for how it might be retrieving, caching, or altering data."
