1. ME/CFS XMRV Virus - Will The Blood Banks Be Screened?
A study published last week in the journal Science suggested that many patients who had the ME/CFS syndrome were infected with a recently discovered virus. Further testing after the paper was written found the XMRV virus in nearly 98 percent of about 300 patients with the ME/CFS, Dr. Mikovits said. The National Cancer Institute is taking XMRV seriously, said Dr. Stuart Le Grice, head of its Center of Excellence in HIV/AIDS and Cancer Virology. Health officials became especially concerned last spring when several research teams looking at prostate cancer reported finding XMRV in 3 percent to 4 percent of blood samples from healthy people in control groups. That could translate into 10 million American being infected with a newly discovered, poorly understood retrovirus that has already been linked to two diseases. “How significant a risk is this to blood banks?” Dr. Le Grice asked. “Do we need to consider large-scale screening in blood banks ?”

2. Disgraced UK Health Minister Promotes Deadly GlaxoSmithKline HPV Vaccine 
Gillian Merron MP (New Labour, Lincoln), has been using her position as Health Mininster of State in the British parliament to promote the activities of Cervarix HPV vaccine manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline. Merron announced that "no serious new safety issues have been identified despite significant usage of the vaccine in the UK." It is unconscionable to see our elected representatives promoting the best interests of the pharmaceutical industry in this way with the deaths and disabilities from this vaccine increasing daily. Merron's constituents in Lincoln please take note. Come the next General Election, those politicians entwined with Big Pharma are set be made accountable to the electorate.

3. AIDS Vaccine Study Results Are Questioned
Researchers from the U.S. Army and Thailand didn’t publicly disclose a second analysis of the first HIV vaccine, and this analysis suggested the results may have been a fluke. The additional data were available to the researchers on Sept. 24 when they announced the results, but they chose not to disclose them, Jerome Kim, a scientist with the U.S. Army who was involved in the study, told the paper. The incomplete disclosure raises the question of whether the Army, the Thai government and the U.S. National Institutes of Health - which helped fund the study - rushed to give a positive spin.

4. New York Nurses To Sue Over Swine Flu Vaccines
ALBANY -- Lorna Patterson is willing to take on New York's top health official for her right to be flu vaccine-free. The registered nurse in Albany Medical Center's emergency room is among a group of nurses who plan to file a lawsuit against state Health Commissioner Dr. Richard Daines to prevent the mandatory vaccination of New York's health care workers with the H1N1 flu virus. The four nurses will file a lawsuit against the state this week to prevent the forced vaccination, said their attorney, Terence L. Kindlon. Patterson said the vaccination could be dangerous for people, she is not willing to risk her health and does not think it is fair that she should lose her job. A similar suit filed last week in New York City names Commissioner Daines and Jeffrey Kraut, chairman of the state Hospital Planning and Review Council, and contends it is beyond the state's authority to mandate getting the vaccines.

Greedy MPs were facing a serious public backlash last night for trying to avoid repaying hundreds of thousands of pounds in fiddled expenses. The expenses scandal reignited yesterday as MPs returned from their 12-week “summer” break. Auditor Sir Thomas Legg, a former civil servant charged with investigating wrongful claims, wrote to every MP. Over two-thirds were understood to have been ordered to pay money back into public funds. Leading the way was disgraced former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, who was yesterday let off with a slap on the wrist and told to apologise despite a sleaze probe. Indications that MPs were preparing to resist repayment demands provoked a furious backlash. Our MPs remain unaccountable, our parliament remains unrepresentative.
