300 Pakistan Intelligence Agents Aided Bin Laden

A veteran foreign correspondent says Pakistan--a nuclear-armed, Muslim country steeped in anti-Americanism and religious extremism--assigned 300 intelligence agents to work directly with Osama Bin Laden after the Pakistan-created Taliban conquered Afghanistan. Click here for the article, which highlights Pakistan's potential threat to the United States and to nuclear-armed India.

Taliban Deny They Threaten West, Claim Control Over Afghan Area Following Fight with US Troops

The Islamist group that harbored and aided Al Qaeda says it does not threaten the West, merely wants to drive foreign forces from Afghanistan and create an Islamist state there. Click here for the Reuters report.

The new Taliban line is likely to be effective in terms of influencing public opinion, especially in the United States, where Obama administration officials are openly disagreeing with each other over the Taliban threat potential in the context of determining the need to commit additional troops to an increasingly unpopular and confusing conflict.

Obama to Meet Dalai Lama After China Trip

Another switch under pressure....

AFP reports:

US President Barack Obama will meet the Dalai Lama later this year, the White House said, rejecting accusations he "kowtowed" to China by avoiding the exiled Tibetan leader on his current visit.

Top congressional leaders rallied behind the Dalai Lama in a Tuesday ceremony at the Capitol, where they presented him with a new prize for championing human rights.

But despite lawmakers' praise and his sold-out public lectures scheduled later in the week, the trip will mark the first time since 1991 that the Dalai Lama has come to Washington without a meeting with the US president.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs denied that Obama, who has championed warmer ties with a growing China, had been trying not to annoy Beijing before his first visit there as president in November.

Israel's Vital Nuclear Deterrent on UN Hit List

China Confidential has repeatedly warned that Israel is increasingly being targeted for nuclear disarmament, even though its presumed nuclear arsenal is a necessary deterrent to annihilation at the hands of missile-mad, nuclear-arming Iran and its Islamist and secular allies--Hamas and Hezbollah, and Syria, respectively. A political fantasy/opinion article in the Wall Street Journal seems to agree with the China Confidential analysis. The piece begins as follows:

Jan. 20, 2010

NEW YORK—When American diplomats sat down for the first in a series of face-to-face talks with their Iranian counterparts last October in Geneva, few would have predicted that what began as a negotiation over Tehran's nuclear programs would wind up in a stunning demand by the Security Council that Israel give up its atomic weapons.

Brzezinski Advised Obama to Snub Dalai Lama

China Confidential has learned that Zbigniew Brzezinski advised U.S. President Barack Obama to snub the Dalai Lama.

Brzezinski's advice was echoed by left-wing Obama administration members who regard the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader as a Cold War relic because he and his movement were for many years the beneficiaries of CIA support.

But Brzezinski has also advised Obama to continue and maybe, even, to escalate support for restive Chinese Muslims as a way of both pressuring China and influencing Islamists across Central Asia and the Middle East.

Brzezinski is obsessed with influencing Islamists. As U.S. President Jimmy Carter's National Security Advisor, Brzezinski orchestrated the Islamist overthrow of Iran's modernizing monarch, the pro-American Shah, in a failed attempt to curry favor with the viciously anti-American Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Brzezinski was also the architect of the covert, pro-Islamist U.S. intervention in Afghanistan--ahead of the Soviet invasion of the country--which Carter's successor, President Ronald Reagan, escalated into America's largest-ever secret operation. The intervention succeeded in luring Moscow into a protracted and costly land war in Afghanistan, which clearly contributed to the Soviet crackup.

Unfortunately--for the 3,000 innocent victims of 9/11 and countless other victims of the global jihad--the American-Saudi-Pakistani-supported war also unleashed a monster that threatens all civilized nations.
