1. Blackout: Military Personnel Banned From Swine Flu Vaccine Sites
If you want to draw attention to a problem, try hiding it. That's the strategy of several military bases when it comes to the H1N1 vaccine. With a vaccine that was so new and little known about it, like many Americans, troops were heading to the web to find answers to their very legitimate questions. What they found instead is that several websites and blogs with key information asking critical questions had been blocked from their viewing. Among those that were repeatedly mentioned as blocked sites are the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC), the site for Gary Matsumoto's book Vaccine-A, and vaccine expert Dr. Meryl Nass. Nass, one of the experts whose site has been blocked, points out the real shame in all of this: "It's unfortunate that the service members who are defending our civil rights are not afforded the same consideration." If you're on a base that has blocked websites related to the H1N1 vaccine, I'd love to know what sites are blocked and what base you're on. You can contact me directly.

2. Couple Flee To Save Baby From UK Social Workers
Despair: Kerry Robertson is 29 weeks pregnant
by Mark McDougall and the couple have already
named the unborn child Ben. She is 'out of her
mind with worry'
A heavily pregnant woman and her fiancé have gone on the run after social workers threatened to take away their baby at birth. Kerry Robertson, 17, and Mark McDougall, 25, had been told that she was not bright enough to raise their child and that they would have to give him up. Desperate to keep their family together, the pair fled their home yesterday for a secret safe house. Mark said: 'When Kerry found out she was pregnant, a care worker mentioned she might not be able to keep the baby but we never believed they would do something as cruel as to take him away. Not only am I extremely angry and upset about the way we've been treated, I have become worried for Kerry's and our unborn baby's health. I defy anyone to put up with what we've had to put up with."

3. National Health Federation Scores Victory At CODEX For All
This week of November 2-6, 2009, the 31st Session of the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) met in Dusseldorf, Germany to continue its work in developing standards for global nutrition. The real battle and amazing success took place on Tuesday, November 3rd, during the general session, when the two agenda items covering the NRVs for non-communicable diseases, including the “Proposed Draft Additional or Revised Nutrient Reference Values for Labelling Purposes in the Codex Guidelines on Nutrition Labelling,” were discussed by the Committee. Increasingly recognized at these Codex meetings, NHF appreciates the support it has been given by other country-member and INGO delegations. Most of all, though, NHF appreciates the support its membership has given it, financially and morally, that enabled this victory to happen at all.
