Israel's Heron TP sold in 40 countries

Germany is the fifth foreign nation to acquire the Heron TP drone or other Israeli unmanned aerial vehicle technology for support missions against the Taliban and al Qaeda in Afghanistan, DEBKAfile's military sources report. Today, these drones complement the US Air Force's dominant role in Afghanistan air space.

World armies have purchased a total of 40 Israeli drones of different types. The most recent client was Russia.

Russian S-400 missile interceptor

A multibillion transaction for the sale of highly sophisticated Russian S-400 Triumf (NATO codenamed SA-21 Growler) missile interceptors to Saudi Arabia is hanging fire over Israel's objections to their deployment within easy range of the Negev and Eilat port, DEBKAfile's military sources report.

The $7 billion deal was brokered by Washington with a view to tempting Moscow to withhold S-300 air and missile defense batteries from Iran.

DEBKAfilereports that at the end of a 12-year search, the police and Shin Bet finally caught up with the Yaacov Taitel, 37, from Shevut Rachel, whom they suspect of a long series of terrorist crimes. They arrested him in the Har Nof district of Jerusalem Oct. 9. Two of those crimes are the murders of an Arab taxi driver in June 1997 and an Arab shepherd in August of that year.

DEBKAfile's military and intelligence sources report that a mammoth arms train has been running to Hizballah for months via Egypt. They identify the ship which offloaded the arms shipment at the Egyptian port of Damietta, where it was picked up by theFrancop as the Iranian Visea, which is now on its way from the British port of Felixtowe to Hamburg, Germany. An international operation is afoot to apprehend the Iranian ship as of Wednesday, Nov. 4, when Israeli naval forces commandeered the Francop near Cyprus with hundreds of tons of Iranian arms bound for the Lebanese Hizballah.

Seized Hizballah arms ship

The Antigua-flagged arms shipFrancopcommandeered by the Israeli Navy early Wednesday, Nov. 4, near Cyprus, carried 40 containers of hundreds of tons of Iranian arms for Hizballah, enough to keep Hizballah fighting for a month, said Israeli Navy commander Brig.-Gen Ronnie Ben-Yehuda in a news briefing Wednesday, Nov 3.

The ship was intercepted in a joint Israel Navy-US Task Force 151 operation.

Silkworm C-802 shore-to-ship missile fired from Lebanon

Israel's military intelligence chief Brig. Amos Yadlin revealed Tuesday, Nov. 3, that the Palestinian Hamas had successfully tested a new 60-km range Iranian shore-to-sea missile launching it west from the Gaza coast. When fired north overland, the missile could reach Tel Aviv. He revealed that Iranian arms were reaching Hizballah and Hamas through Syria and, for the first, time viaTurkey.

DEBKAfile's military sources identify the new missile in Hamas' arsenal as a C-802 of the Silkworm series, smuggled in with the help of Hizballah.
