Shiraz Maher is a courageous British Muslim of moral integrity who supports Israel’s right to defend itself against annihilation. In Standpoint magazine’s blog, he writes an extremely sharp article -- marking the fall of the Berlin wall -- which lists the many ‘security walls’ in the Muslim world but which are totally ignored in the frenzy over Israel’s separation fence:

Built in response to the Palestinian intifada which claimed more than 900 lives since September 2000, the fence has dramatically halted the number of terrorist attacks inside the country. Excuse the pun -- but from the wall-to-wall coverage it received you could be mistaken for thinking that Israel's decision to defend itself in this was unprecedented. Iran caught red-handed, Britain yawns

Last week, Israeli naval commandos seized a huge haul of armaments shipped from Iran and destined for Syria and thence, Israel says, for Hezbollah in Lebanon. The haul, seized from a cargo ship flying the flag of Antigua, south of Cyprus, contained thirty-six shipping containers with 500 tons of weaponry -- about 9,000 mortar bombs, 3,000 Katyusha artillery rockets, 3,000 recoilless gun shells, 20,000 grenades and over a half million rounds of small arms ammunition.

This seizure was of considerable significance. It demonstrated that Iran is arming terrorists in Lebanon (where Hezbollah is now ‘sharing power’ in – ie, exercising power over -- the government). It showed how Iran is busting the UN arms embargo. It exposed the extent of Syria’s collusion with Iran. And it showed the extent of the threat to Israel from Iran in Lebanon working through...

A fifth columnist, by Presidential appointment?

It seems scarcely credible even by the standards of his administration, but Obama has now appointed to the senior Iran desk at the State Department a man who is in hock to the Iranian regime. Ed Lasky at American Thinker reports that the new official, John Limbert, serves on the advisory board of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC):

The Council is widely considered the de facto lobby for the Iranian regime in America. It opposes sanctions on Iran, soft-pedals any controversial events in Iran, and counsels ‘patience’ regarding Iran's stance towards its nuclear program. The NIAC has been at the forefront of  lobbying against continued congressional funding of the Voice of America Persia service, Radio Farad, and grants for Iranian civil society.
